blurry render issue-osx-opengl-wings 3d

#1

Hi. When attempting a render using open gl on OSX, the render is very blurry and the corners are jagged.

In the open gl render options I only have the option for “draft quality” in the dropdown. This seems a bit odd having a dropdown with only 1 option and I am wondering if there should be other options that would solve my problem.

Can anyone shed some light on how to render non blurry/jagged images with open gl.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

are you using the newest release of wings? i have not rendered using open gl in a long time because i have yafray, but i dont remember any releases(as far back as 15 at least) that did not have 3 settings for quality. i would suggest installing and using yafray as there are alot more options, including raytracing which is the main thing that sets open gl and yafray apart. open gl is quicker but without raytracing you really cant get the same quality renders.

Thanks for your prompt response, and for confirming the drop down in open gl aren’t showing all the options.

I have tried yafray this morning per your advice, however the same symptoms persist. Poor quality image with jagged edges.

Is raytracing controlled by the “raydepth” option under render when rendering with yafray or something else?

I’ll keep at yafray and hope to be rendering in short order. Thanks again.

Yes, the raydepth is controlled that way, but you also have to consider your DOF(depth of field) settings, and your aa(antialias sweeps). i have the same problem with the jagged renders only because i have not figured out which setting to adjust for that. i think a total of 16 passes (4 aa, and 4 mini) is good for testing your antialiasing issues, but i have not messed with it enough to fine tune it. i get bored waiting for the renders and i go right into modelling something else or modifying my scene lol. i am going to play around with settings today and just render a simple primitive to see what i can come up with.

The antialising in the opengl renderer is dependent on the
gfxcard and OS (and SDL the underlying gfx lib we use) features.

That is why it is disabled on computers, same with bump and shadows.

wings4me3d: Thats a big help, thanks. I have run some render tests and the 4 and 4 was my best render yet. Although your right, It does take a bit longer.

Also, the yafray manual or google don’t really go into too much detail about the yafray render options, for example I couldn’t find anything about setting gamma. Let me know if you came up with any new advice from your exports.

cheers.

Dan,
Thanks for your reply. I am sorry to hear that.
