Blender vs Wings3d

#1

Hello Folks!

I have been looking into Blender and Wings3d.

It seems that Blender has more of a following. Also there are books sold and available for Blender. I didn’t see any books for sale on Wings3d.
Am I correct to assume this?

Which one is better as an overall 3D package?

Why Wings over Blender? OR
Why Blender over Wings?

Are any of them better to use with ZBrush?

Regards,
Bill

I would say you could use Wings for modeling, as it is focused around modeling, while Blender is aimed at the whole deal. Blender is a bit different than Wings when it comes to modelling. Wings use box-modeling all the way, while blender is good for patch modeling. Blender only works with triangular or square polygons.

Yafray can be used to render the scenes with full radiosity and such.

But all in all, just use whatever you need. If you want to model with a box as the starting geometry, use Wings, if you want to stitch the model together poly by poly, use Blender.

Everything depends on that you want to do blender is a complete tool shaped, animation, render, game engine etc. While wings is a very good patternmaker because of it I believe that it depends on that you want to do

Didn’t see anything “For Sale” concerning wings…

There’s alot of books on character/CG animation,it’s up to you to choose one depending on your needs.

Nevermind the double post…

wings3d is a superior modeler. It was made to do modeling really well. I suggest using both in your pipeline. wings3d just for modeling/maybe some UV editing , then import into blender for animation, materials, lights, etc.
