Blender 2.5x toolbox

#1

In Blender 2.4x the Space key invoked a nice toolbox menu. However, in 2.5x beta I get just a couple of randomly chosen commands and a text field… Do you know the new shortcut for a more complete Toolbox, or why it disapperared? Whats worse, the 3D window menus are also heavily stripped of the commands I use most in this context. Blender is not and will not be soon the only piece of software I use so I really dont want to memorize the names of all the commands I use against all their synonyms…

…so would be very thankful for suggestions.

The add menu has been remapped to Shift+A in the 2.5xx series, but you can remap it back to space bar in the preferences if you want. (I have)

Hope that helps

You might actually prefer enabling the “dynamic spacebar” addon. I believe it’s there in the preferences by default, just disabled. Open the preferences/add on and just put a check mark in the box to enable. Don’t forget to “ctrl + U” to save it as default.

If it’s not there do a quick google search for it. It won’t be hard to find.

hope this helps!

A lot of things have moved, changed or have been added in 2.5, and some things are still missing.

The spacebar function has changed to a search function, The Add menu is Shift-A, but you can add the old spacebar menu through the Add-Ons in the preferences. Its called Dynamic Spacebar Menu. Like previously said… make sure you ctrl-u or click the “save as defalut” button in the preferences window. Also make sure you have a blank scene before you save the default, as the scene will also be saved into the default setup.

I have a whole list of these tips and some links to other similar lists on my blog.

what you have come across is the operator search menu, which is mapped to space by default, also the menues are as complete as they will ever be as we have a rule no, if a tool is to be used and is not experimental then it MUST have a menu entry

Thanks, but the Dynamic Toolbar option… is not clickable. I can tick any other option but not this one.

You should probably download a more recent build from graphicall.org to get a working version.

just a note that the Dynamic Spacebar menu is much more advanced than the old spacebar menu.
it is context sensitive depending on what mode you are in.
also there’s some extra features like the custom cursor menu included.

… and builds from Subversion and GraphicAll are “dynamic” too. The add menu just lost the Meta-human rig and subsidiaries.
