Bitmap spread across multiple particles?


I have a plane with an image on it. I would like the plane to break apart and come towards the camera with each part keeping its portion of the image but then, as the parts move, change the texture to something else. I know how to do this manually, but I would like several dozen pieces which would be a pain to animate manually. SO, I was thinking perhaps particles could be used to do this but I can’t figure out how.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Using 3ds Max 2020


Well, I think I got it by using a Birth Group particle emitter, then an age test with a wide variation that feeds into a speed event so the tiles leave at different rates. Along with the speed I put a Material Frequency to change the tiles appearance.
