best install method with custom settings.

I know you can install SP1 right from the exe file that we’ve got. That speeds up that process since you don’t have to wait for the disc.

What I want to do though is basically replace the default settings and toolbars without having to open Rhino and load them up.

Is there just a way to take the settings from one machine which is already set up and simply copy them to the next computer? I’m going to help the IT guy, who is installing Rhino 4 for everyone, get a good install method for doing that.

So many of the designers miss out on features, of course they could still turn them off if they want, like showing backside faces a different color. When they give the data to us animation guys we get a whole mess of unjoined surfaces (i’m using show all naked edges to help with that) because they claim to be unaware, tons of backward facing surfaces, left over block instances that aren’t even being used, and other stuff. It’d be Really nice if we could help them out a little to give the rest of us a brake.

any suggestions?

Well you can’t per se do it without opening Rhino because the settings are in the registry, the export/import to .ini file thing is an add-on for moving settings. So that could just be scripted, along with importing a new set of toolbars, I wouldn’t “replace” the default file, it’ll get blown away the next time there’s an upgrade.

You can exchange menu/preferences settings with the “importoptions” & “exportoptions” commands from one Rhino Workplace to another.
The same applies to toolbars. On the bootdrive in the win-directory where your general preferences are saved there are also some McNeel files. In the Rhino folder there are toolbar collection files (default as well as custom ones) with the extension *.tb. These can be copied and then loaded in the toolbar menu. Even customized toolbars and button are saved in these files - the only thing that’s not contained is the toolbar layout itself on the screen.
In any case you need to open the other Rhino once to load your customized settings&toolsbars.
