Bending a cylinder like grass..

#1

Hi everyone,

Is there a neat trick in Wings3D to bend a cylinder or a beam-object like it is a piece of grass blowing in the wind?

What i would like is a fixed base of the cylinder and the rest of the object to bend like grass or hair. Could i use a combination of magnets and the rotate function (around a vertex) to pull that off?

Thanx in advance,
Ronald

Sure, select the top face of your “grass” enter magnet mode for move free (ctrl click in maya camera mode). Again this is specific for maya camera mode, ctrl right click for manget options, set it to surface, select the radius, pick a selection close the bottom of your “grass” not all the way down tho. right click to start moving, hit 4 for “spike” mode to bend it like that, try getting familiar with the other modes aswell, they all come useful in different scenarios.

All this options are displayed on the infobar at the bottom of wings, also make sure to have advanced menus enabled.

Think that might do it, have fun.

Thanx guys! That really helps!

I’ve tried out most of the polygon modelers out there like Max6, Lightwave, XSI, Cinema4D, Maya, Silo (yes that one too) etc…but Wings3D workflow simple walks circles around the other ones!!
