Bell 222 (Helicopter)

#1

As part of a personal project for my porfolio, I have decided to try new waters and try to do a more detailed technical Model.

I always have been a fan of the Bell 222 Helicopter and want to build a high resolution version of the chopper…

Ill post some wires tonight.

Well here is an update.
I have some issues with the poly flow of the subpatch cage.

lookin’ good so far… (was a big fan of Airwolf back in the day)
the civilian version is pretty slick too…

looking good, keep us updated

Hey Roberto - looks like a promising start.

The pinching and weird mesh issues is from having too many strange shaped polygons in critical areas that need to be very smooth. There isn’t any reason you couldn’t have all-quad’s at this stage of the build.

My suggestion would be to first approach the model as a low polygon object - get the polys and flow right first, then worry about going back, subdividing, and adding details like the bevels in the window edges and more complex curves.

I quickly drew this up… maybe it’ll help if used as a loose guide, add and subtract edges as you see fit.

That is a very good idea…

Ill simplify the core object tonight…

Hey Roberto,

welcome to the helicopter-club!
You chose a nice model, very dynamic look.

Nice progress so far, the overall shape seems to be right. Always keep in mind that blueprints should just give an overview about the basic shape as they are pretty unexact. Grab a bunch of highres photos and compare the parts between each other to get the right position and scale.

I can’t wait to see all the work in progress images!

Cheers from NYC
Andre

Guys thanks for the commnets.
Akin your flow diagram helped A LOT…

Redid the flow and reduced the geometry

To do: work on Doors and more Poly flow work.
Feel free to comment guys.

Hi Roberto

I love this chopper… made famous as being Airwolf.

I agree with Andre regarding the comparison to HR images. Already I spot some discrepencies to the real thing, ie. the air intakes are inaccurate (but you’rs look very streamlined). Find some pics, you’ll get plenty on www.airliners.net , do a search.

I’m looking forward to some updates.

Giom

Wow that is a cool resource…

The version of the 222 I am modeling is an earlier version of the 222.
I will redo the inlet later tonight…

Here are some more pics of the model
