LM,

Great to hear you’re enjoying the Master Copies. I may not comment much but I’ve been looking at your WIP thread and there’s a lot of great improvement there ~ master copies only expedite that process.

Maladie,

When I consider your first drawing that you posted here, and see the work you’re doing now, that’s a really amazing improvement! Keep pushing these, I think they are doing you a world of good.

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

#802

Thanks, Rebecca! Here’s another one. I’m not sure how to ‘push’ them, except to do them (almost) every day. I try to make clearer lines but I still need more feeling for that. Sometimes it also seems hard to do little things like faces on a small tablet, but maybe that’s not an excuse:). Anyway I liked his cute little skirt.

#803

Thanks Rebecca =D

Maladie - Wow!! That looks amazing! Your style of sketching is so unique, but I find that refreshing!

For the thread I just felt a little inspired - and a little bored: husband is out of town tonight and I get really manic when he’s gone, I need to keep busy until I’m so exhausted I collapse.

I haven’t done a 2/5/10 yet, so here we go:

And here is another sketch, which is actually one I did before - so I wanted to put my hand to it again. Alas, I don’t see much improvement… but that’s ok. Baby steps.

Old One about 1 month ago now or so ( about 15 mins) ::::

One I did today:::

Hi…Maladie…

Really like that David face…you captured the expression, and emotion nicely.
Glad to hear that you threw away that erasier…it does a lot more harm, than good.
Nice to be able to see your trail of exploreation over the form…I think the eyes are the best part of this drawing…like the whole drawing actually…GREAT JOB…:applause:

TAKE CARE
Glenn

#805

Wow, Glenn, thanks! That really means a lot to me.

This is a last experiment before I go to bed. Took five minutes. I’m starting to show signs of addiction like hollow eyes and uncommunicative behaviour towards boyfriend. So bye!

Maladie!

Maladie!

incredible progress. I should prepare a template for my replies to your drawings. It boils down to just sit there flabbergasted and watch your skill unfold.

Azabache.

Strong lineart! I like it a lot. Also, impressive how you managed to translate that into the digital realm.

sigh
At the moment I am fighting my challenge entry on a daily basis. While it’s a somehow strangely nurturing thing to be working intensely on a single painting I do miss my daily exercises and the feeling of doing “mileage” (Rebecca). Well, the 27th is a set limit at least.

Mu
Thanks for your support!! I still have a lot to learn to master the wacom, though.

Rebecca
I’ll start my own anatomy thread as soon as posible, and of course, I’m looking forward to do some OFDW as well!!

Cheers!!

Here’s one more for today.

#809

Maladie,

Yes, by ‘pushing them’, I definitely meant continuing to do them. It’s always nice to see focused effort!

LM,

Keep going with the 2/5/10 minute studies, I think that they are incredibly helpful.

There are some great examples of these exercises here:

SPOTLIGHT: Best of Beginner’s Lounge - Year 1

Definitely check this thread out if you have not already when you get the chance!

Mu,

Where have you been???

Azabache,

That’s great, I look forward to it!

TA,

WOW, this is a really nice one! You are really improving…keep up the good work!

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

Going on with that fun serie, I spent some time detailing and smudging around the picture from last week. Unfortunately I messed up the face :frowning:

#811

TA,

This is overall a really nice sketch. The majority, the torso, legs, and her left arm are looking great. I think the right arm and the face need a bit more work (the right arm seems a bit small in comparison to the left) but I think you’re really starting to get some nice light / dark effects happening overall, and especially with the legs.

Keep up the good work!

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

but i need gesture exercise:buttrock:
charcoal, 10 min. refrence pic.

#813

MU: I’m so glad to see you back here! Also thanks for the compliments, they keep me really motivated to try harder all the time. Eventually I’d love to be able to create characters on my own and 3D-model them, so the more to the point I can draw, the better.

TA: Wow, congratulations! I think you have, in learning terms, stepped up to the next platform. These have a quality that really stands out from your earlier work. Cool to see!

#814

This is all I managed to get done. I’m having a bad drawing day, possibly due to the fact I’m a little sick. I was so clumsy and all the lines just came out wrong. I’d rather have a bad hair day any day:). Anyway, I’ll just consider this one of my 10.000 bad pieces that, according to Clippie, each artist has to get out of the way before they get to the good stuff.

#815

Rebecca: where I have been? been working on that challenge entry. And as I basically skipped a few weeks in between I sort of lost the focus of the people who had been watching my progress in there before so it’s kind of hard…

could not stand to watch my challenge piece today…

a doodle, no ref, in case it isn’t painfully obvious…

from the sketchathon…

#816

Here is today’s WIP (trying to do at least 1 a day, but this one is tough). And here is the ref if you’re interested in it.

Here’s another one. Despite the praise for having improved I’m not really convinced of that myself. I really saw it when I did a muscular male torso some time ago, but ever since that I feel less and less sure of where to put all the lines. I guess I’m now on a platform and have to keep pushing till I can take the next step up. Sometimes it’s just frustrating though, 'cause one thing will come out alright and then the next will be mucked up, and I won’t know what I did wrong. Maybe I should take a course or something.

Sorry to bother you all with this, I just had to get it off my chest:).

#818

Nice studies!!

I don’t know if I should post some drawings on my anatomy thread or here… or both??
Well I’ll post here for now since I’m also a begginer.

A-I-R,

Nice piece! A lot of expressiveness in this one, I like it a lot! Keep going in this direction, it seems to be a good one.

Maladie,

Clippy’s right, and you’ll go through days and periods of time where things don’t click ~ and then, after a while, they do click and you reach a new plateau. Over the years I’ve learned to expect and even to exploit this cycle of fallowness and growth, to use a nature analogy; I’ll push through the periods where none of my drawings are working because I have learned that they are a necessary part of the process in order to get to the point where I’ve learned something new. I’ve actually reached a ‘gait’ where I can expect to do 5~6 drawings that don’t work before I hit a few that do. It’s actually kind of cool once you master the concept that this is how things work in drawing. But admittedly it took a long time for me to learn that, and the frustration is always there in the ‘off’ periods, though I have to say it is considerably less.

Regarding courses, I am not trying to push anything on anyone, but I will be teaching another CGWorkshop soon (I can’t say exactly how soon, as CGSociety members get first crack at signing up) but there is also some cool stuff happening in relation to the upcoming Workshop that I am excited about. No definite details though, but I’ll let folks know once I can.

Also, are there figure drawing courses at a local community college or otherwise that you can take? Oftentimes community colleges (here, at least) run uninstructed model workshops which you can attend for a small fee. Alternately, model/artist guilds exist and you can always check to see if there are art classes offered in your area ~ if there are, I most definitely encourage you to take live figure drawing classes!

Mr. Mu,

Heh, I’ve been really horrible about checking in on anyone’s Challenge entries…my apologies for that. I really got caught up in the Workshop as always happens (and as should happen) and then also the forum changes ~ great! but time consuming. I hope you’ve enjoyed the Challenge process, it’s very cool just to get your feet wet in I think and it’s just fun to participate in a group event. I look at it as more of a fun social thing than actually trying to ‘win’.

Needless to say, it’s nice to see you back, and I look forward to seeing many more of your pieces, especially now that you have Painter!

tizianoadmirer,

WOW!!! Did you get a tablet recently? I can’t imagine that you did this with a mouse, but if you did, then my hat is off to you. Your recent progress is really amazing, and great to see ~ I’m really happy for you and can’t wait to see your further progress!

Azabanche,

Just saw your post. Nice studies! It looks as though you are inspired by Hogarth? I definitely encourage you to continue with these. You are more than welcome to post your work to both threads. Think of your Personal Anatomy Thread as sort of your Home Base ~ all of the other Tutorial and Workshop threads are there for you to work on your own work in a group environment, and the Personal Anatomy Threads are more like a repository for the work generated in other places.

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

Maladie - liking these sketches, keep em coming!

Air - nice charcoal sketch, has alot of feeling to the work…very nice

Well here’s mine for today, a study from an anatomy book I have. Thought i’d spend around 40mins to an hour working on this. Can’t find a reference image online, checked the usual resources.

There is some nudity
