Beats Pill 2.0 speaker

#1

Hi guys, I’m a fairly new user of the forum and this is one of my first computer graphic projects.
I will finish the modelling and I will render the speaker in renderman. :keenly:
What do you think so far? And how would you model the mesh grind?

#2

And the mesh is done

#3

That’s really nice man, I think that’s the first one I’ve seen without resorting to a normal map or some sort of displacement. Good job!

#4

Well crafted model. But you will face some issues with the poles inside the speakers if you decide to make them reflective. How did you make the grid mesh?

#5

I’m rendering the model with renderman and I am not encountering any problem on the speakers.
About the mesh, I modelled the shape on which the mesh was supposed to be shaped around and I then applied a shrinkwrap on a simple model of a polygonal grid mesh on the shape. I then deleted the history, extruded the grid mesh and smoothed it.

Nice technique, thanks for answering. Try giving the object a chrome material and use a background with clear lines. Then make a close up render of one of the poles. You should see some slight distortion. So it’s pretty unlikely to see it but it’s still there. I think I read somewhere that renderman doesn’t have this problem, not sure though. Generally it’s one of the most common problems modelers have to deal with. There are several solutions but each of them comes with drawbacks.

Oh yeah, my bad ahaha… I understood something else, anyway the mesh will prevent the issue as it will cover the poles. In a few minutes the render will be available, my laptop is damn slow

#8

Just a material test :keenly:

#9

Looks nice

#10

Thanks!!

#11

New version with the Pixar Disney material and a subtle post-processing

#12

Looks great! I’m interested to see it with a higher focal length.

#13

Looks great man, good job

#14

Here is the final!
Hope you like it and please leave any comment and/or critique

You did a really good job bro, not sure about the intensity of the glow, but that’s just a personal thing. Great render man
