Beast of burden - character - ZrO-1

#383

I apreciate the crits guys. The saggy butt is from the pants not his actual rear-end. And as far as tweaking the butt and wrists to further refine them; they pro’lly won’t even be seen once I get the coat and chaps done. I’ve spent the last 6 hours building and riggin a seriously hard-core skelleton rig for the character. I’ve got set-driven keys for the finger spread and curl. I have a forearm joint for proper wrist rotation (Y and Z rotations are at the wrist, X rotation is at the middle of the forearm). I have an expression setup to center the pelvis in the middle of the feet. I have heel-toe roll keys set up. I have an IK spline chain to control the bend in the spine. The rigg is so set up now  All that’s left is to actually bind the skin to the skelleton :stuck_out_tongue:
Anyway here’s the latest pic of the character before I bind it:

hi zro-1 - looks great - sounds like a serious rig, post some pics?

You sure it’s his pants making the saggy butt and not the bad curry he ate last night?

#385

Good luck with the rigging. Dont spend to much time there, I for one usually do spend to much time testing.
But as this is a still picture go will get away with almost everything.

He is turning out quite nice. Good Luck.

Very nice Zro1…I especially like the way the boards at the back attach to the chains, and the chains are solid! Can’t really fault this…

#388

great, congratulations!

animator? modeler?

#389

CONGRATZZ!!!

Now thats cool !!! PARTYTIME!!!

#390

congratulations zro-1, I’m sure you deserve it.

Hope this doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of you here :frowning:

#391

congratulations !! hope you still have time for us

#392

Whee! Well done Zr0-1! I’d model you a cake, but I don’t have time and my brain hurts.

:bounce:

#393

What the heck… you deserve it!

But you can light your own candles dang it!:stuck_out_tongue:

#394

LMAO!!!
Thanks erilaz. That is friggin awesome! You totally made my day with that cake.

Well, I guess I sould give you guys a bit of an update. I’ve been editing and tweaking the Weight maps to get the best possible deformations that I can. I also have been testing out the cloth tools so that when I’m ready to add the coat and chaps I can do it in one shot. If all goes well, I should have a pic of him fully poseable by this evening. So that’s where I am right now.

Thanks again erilaz, that cake is great

#395

Nice one ZrO-1, does that mean you can earn money and buy everyone else a cake now??? Is this a job in 3D???

#396

@ neilyb: LOL I don’t think I’ll be making that sort of cash for a while :p. The job does deal a bit with 3D, but it’s more of an IT job than a graphics job. I’ll be the Senior computer lab coordinator/administrator for the Fine Arts and Communication Arts departments at NYIT (New York Institute of Technology). What that means is that I’ll mostly be responsable for keeping the computers and network up and running in tip-top shape for the teachers and students. On top of that I’ll be supervising/assisting in instruction with all of the graphics applications during “free-hour” periods between classes.

#397

sounds like the perfect opportunity to set up a decent render farm!!!

congrats again

#398

Render farm. Hmmm…I might actually be able to do a couple HD-resolution 5 min animations now… :xtreme:

#399

ha ha, what the hell, why not go for 4k. You could set up a business on the side, hiring out your shiny new farm

Let me know if you do a 5min hd anim, i’ll help

#400

Hey Congratulations there ZrO-1 and great job with your dude. He’s coming out nicely. I am anxious to see him in the rest of the scene.

Knock them dead at work  And let those students know who’s da man!! hehehehe

#401

Well I have the cowboy all weighted. In this pic you’ll see that some of his shoulder looks pretty wonky still. But it will be covered by the coat in that section, and the deformations it makes in the coat actually look better this way.
Anyhow, here’s the pic:

#402

hey zro-1! since no one seems to comment to your piece of work i’ll do!
your cowboy came out pretty cool though!! as you said the deformations aren’t nice but the coat is going to cover this, so…what else can i say  may be that there’s a little deformation going on between the thumb and the finger next to it on the right hand of him. but that’s it already! great job! hope the next pic will include the cowboy in the scene with a whole western village and some other animals running around there!

…:argh: …naaah just kiddin’ go on man-gonna give you some starts for motivation!(although i think you already got pretty much of it…)
