Beast of burden - character - ZrO-1

#263

Whoo Hoo!!!
I’ve gotten all the primary modeling done on the cowboy. This was my first-ever human. I had never done a whole person before. This was my first head also. The only thing I had even started before were the hands which I recycled parts of for this.

Anyway Here’s the final pic of the cowboy alone. I’m going to rig him and get him on the beast for the next pic I post.

#264

hey lookin good, all i can think of is givin the boots a little more dimension where they connect to the leg, so they dont look like skin tight boots, its kickin but though, i just wanted to help:)

#265

Hey guys, could I get some more input on the cowboy before I put him in the scene with everything else? Any suggestions you might have would be a big help.

#266

I think the muscles in his arms are slightly chunky. Looks a bit strange. The face and cloth on the legs is really nice.

Once he’s in a pose, maybe he’ll look a bit more natural. Grrreat!

#267

hey lookin good , but i would add allital more wea and tear, to the cowboy and the beast(including wagon), like bullet holes, scars, just shit to make it look a little more rough, and if your texuring him, stay away from bright blues, and purples(wussie colors)
just a thought

#268

OK well I got the cowboy all rigged. There’s two pics, the first is the view of the bones ontop of the model wireframe. The second is the cowboy in a pose.
Here’s the bones:

#269

Draw pardner!!
Here is the cowboy in a semi-pose. Really it was just to test the bone associations. Obviously I still have tweaking to do.
Here’s the pic:

sweet!!man youve been workin on this project a lot too ha?looks great, cant wait to see it all together. im about to rig my bird, wait that just sounds wrong.

#271

Hey ZrO-1, as per your request: 100% Arizona Palo Verde Beetle. About as big as your hand. And hard as sh*t to kill. Sprayed a whole can of Raid on one and it just kept coming. :surprised

This isn’t my photo, but if another one gets in my house I’ll catch pics for ya with my fancy new digital cam.

On a more relevant topic, your cowboy looks great! He needs a Marlboro dangling out of his mouth, though.

Steve

Thats a BIG BEETLE!!!
Man the scariest bug up here in Canada is a mosquito… Now i know why when i was in arizona as a kid and flipping over rocks my dad told me it wasnt a good idea…
Man if i saw one of those in real life id… id id man id use 2 cans of raid on the sucker… WHOAAAA
heheh
ok to make this post relevant to zro ill just say great cowboy so far.
Im a bit confused though. the glasses dont seem to work with him, is it future style cowboy,?? havn’t read ur post in a bit…
yeah he needs a cig bad, i agree on that one. His shirt seems weird to me too… but this is a Canadian POV on a cowboy. I only see the major stereotypes…hheeeheh
Love it so far.

#273

Over here we just have lots of little insects that like to kill you. Sad thing is, a lot of them can!

I like the pose Zr0-1.

#274

Well I guess last night (actually early this morning) I was too tired and too excited about having him mostly done. But I jumped the gun with getting him rigged and stuff. I came back to him today and went to import him into my scene and realised I forgot to scale him to fit in the scene. And I don’t know if I’m doing it wrong but I can’t scale models once they’ve been rigged. Anyway it wasn’t just that. I also forgot things like his spurs, his bandana and to tweak the modeling on his arms.
Soooo…I am going back one step and finnishing the cowboy BEFORE I go and get him rigged :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for that pic Steve W. Thats a pretty big beetle. Here in NY we have cockroaches as big as small ponies. In fact our Mayor wants to start using them as an enviromentally friendly mode of transportation in the most congested parts of the city. :stuck_out_tongue:

#275

OK, here’s some new stuff. I made the colors less wussy. I added the suggested cigarette. And I also added in the bandana.

I got the model sized this time so now I’m just going to tweak the arms and then I can re-do my rigg and I’ll be all set.

Here’s the pic:

#276

Well, I got my character completly rigged (the right way this time). I didn’t go so far as to make sets for animating, but he’s fully rigged with all the proper constraints which will be more than enough for posing. THere is still a little pinching here and there. But nothing really bad. Next pic I post after this will be the cowboy in the scene with the bug.
For now here’s a screen grab of the rigging set up:

#277

Haha  Yeah man, I’m still working my ass off. hehe, too many projects in my head right now to keep up. I’m working as hard as i can with the contraption, and that wasn’t an easy job… a lot of extruding and modeling and extruding some more to get the whole pile of dead peeps. I’m hoping to be able to finish this one off as well, but as I’m putting on more and more on him, well, I’ll just have to stop somewhere, won’t I? <smile>

Love the way your cowboy looks… harder than rock
and the beast… man, don’t get me started… :xtreme:
i get kind of perplexed, I mean, there’s nothing I can critic on this one… so, all i can say is, keep up the good work

#278

Great! I would make the cig a little bigger if i were you, although it could just be the angle thats making it look small.

#279

OK guys, I got the cowboy into the scene. I placed him in a rough pose, but I’m still not happy with the binding. I’m going to try and change from a smooth bind (which I have on it now) to a rigid bind. I’ll also have to get some latice deformers in there to control the joint bends as well. Anyway in the interest of full disclosure here are two pics of the piece now:
First one:

#280

Here’s a second, closer shot. You can really see where the rigging needs work on this one.

#281

If anyone here has any suggestions or pointers on the best way to rig this guy I’d really appreciate it. I’m having some real troubles getting him to rig correctly.

#282

sorry ZrO-1, unless its 3dsmax i cant help much, if it makes you feel any better im strugglin too, hahah. its looking good though , keep it up!!
