Beast of Burden - Character - Triceron

#1

Unfortuntaely I found out about the challenge forums a little late in the competition. This is my first ever post to CG Talk, but I’m looking for any and all feedback you can offer. Feel free to be brutal, as the job market is the hardest audience there is.

I’ve spent one night on this so far, but Im having problems deciding on the design of the legs. All the ref I have just doesnt seem to help me with the design. Also, the basic leather bump is just a temp. EVERYTHING is open to critique.

Thanks, and wish me luck. There are some good models out there.

OK I’ll be brutal…
The legs and hips area need a lot more folds and wrinkles. It’s way too smooth in those areas. The feet need toes and more bone-structure definition showing through the skin. From this camera angle it looks like there’s either something wrong with the head, or there are parts missing from the head. The bump-map is much too regular. It needs to be a lot more random and varried. Oh, and lose the pink coloration :stuck_out_tongue:
Now with all of that said, I do want to say that this is really good modeling for one night’s worth of working on it. I know some of the stuff I commented on are temp or will be changed, I just wanted to get it out there. One thing that would help us out a ton with making critiques is if you could post any sketches you might have made for this beast’s design. Also some other angles and wireframe pics would help a lot as well.

Hope that helps

Here are some updates of my lil BoB contribution:

As before I would like brutal and honest feedback. As it stands right now, I still have to refine and model the rear legs/feet, I want to put TONS more stuff on this guys back, as well as build some contraption for him to haul. I’de really like some specific feedback on the front legs, as well as the overall body shape of this guy. I’ve still to refine the front legs and shoulder area, but I want to get opinions before I commit myself.

Wireframes to follow:

PS: Is the fractal bump I have put on the carpet a “legal” shader?

Here is another updated pic. I’ll dirty up the catapult tommorow. I didnt get any feedback last time, but does anyone have any suggestions this time around?

This looks really good. …you might want to randomize the wrinkles on those flags, they look cloned.

Thanks for the kind words. :buttrock:

Other than a few last minute tweaks, this is close to my final submission. I’de love to spend more time on it, but friends and family are starting to worry that its summer and Im as pale as a snowman with a pigment problem.

Please offer any suggestions you can. I need all the help I can get.

Just 2 people away from a threesome. :surprised

hi there, it’s hard to crit on the angle you offer. Show us the details you’ve added. For the posing, my crit would be that a beast on 4 legs that heavy couldn’t stand on 2 legs like that. The pose from the other one is allwready better but I see that you want to show it really pulling hard but now it seems to be falling on the side since its left arm is kind of weird and hard to read in this angle. On first view I thout it didn’t have any or that it was on the side of its body. I’ll be happy to crit more if you post multiple angles.

Thanks for the feedback. I have changed the posing on the left-most creature. I’ll mess with the one on the right once I add chains.

I have added a bump map to the contraption, and messed a bit with the ground so he is GRIPPING into the earth as he pulls. I’ll tweak and post my final tommrow night. I still have to do bump on the character and ground plane.

Anything that jumps out at you that bugs you about this piece please let me know

Yah that left one seems to be pulling hard. I know that you didn’t have time to do all you wanted so I won’t crit on the rest. But still have to say that its a nice compo.
