Beast of Burden - Character - Roach[MXF]

#1

Hello everyone, I only entered one other challenge, but had too much other things I had to do, so this is really my first time entering. I have been watching these challenges a lot, im a board whore. So this design took multiple nights to get right, but I feel that I finally have:

And here is the first progress shot I can send as of now:

Tell me what you all think, with possible anatomical issues I may have missed. C&C requested and welcome. -Jeremy- :wip:

Well, Roach this is a very nice sketch and concept!!!

I think it’s anatomicaly perfect and you did a very nice muscle job in the sketch. Let suggest you that for the modeling you try to conserve this straight muscle shape you drawed so well. Not so rounded and soften as i’m actually seeing.

Looking forward for more.
Cheers

WOW thanks for the reply, I just uploaded this hehe, thanks for the compliments, as for the style, do you mean i should try to get the same form of line to render as the sketch as opposed to the shape? hmm that could be an interesting task, I shall try that. Thanks a lot for the comments I am glad you like it.

hey great start, love that look

#5

Hey I like yours too, it is very origional  -Jeremy-

#6

Ok, so I just started blocking the whole sillhouette out. The shoulder is the only thing I have started adding details to, which hasnt been attached yet. Tell me what you think, btw, his back feet have not been blocked and neither have his fingers in case you notice. -Jeremy-

#7

I like the way this is shaping up, especially the way it adheres to the sketch.

#8

cool concept, a kind of turtle under tosteroid or something  try to get some gorilla references to see how they lay on their forarms, you`l see that the elbows are more turned to the outside… thats all I can see for now , keep it up!!

Hey roach, that sketch is awesome. I really like the structure and pose you have to your BoB in that drawing. The modeling looks solid so far, and I really like the sillhouette of your beast. i think the head might need to be scaled just a touch bigger though. Other than that I like everything else so far.

Great work so far

I am so flattered to have you guys comment in my thread  I am very proud of that sketch, I have been going to the art institute and have been too busy at my job to go to the free drawing studio on tuesdays, so I began forcing myself to do it every day after work. One night at 4am and after a few beers for some reason it made sense and I had made a large step forward in my sketching abuilities, thanks to these challenges, all you inspiring artists, and of course all the anatomy books I have been reading lately. Anyway yeah you guys keep up the good work, there is nothing that makes me wanna push myself harder than if someone I admire greatly likes what I do. Thanks a ton. -Jeremy-

Hi everyone, I tried to take your comments into consideration, how do the elbows look? the face isnt finished and yes the head may need to be larger. Do you think that the eyes work, they are kinda deep in the head would they be able to see correcly? anyway here they are:

Thanks guys -Jeremy- :wip: :wip:

Looking real nice

I’d like to see more padding on his knuckles. They look like the slope in too fast. If he walks on that surface then I’d tend to think that there’s be some sort of pad for protection.

#13

hey roachie!!, hey you gotta send us some updates of your work, your model was comming along so nicely, oh well, i just wanted to say your work is really good and i hope to see your progress!!

#14

I like your work too. I agree with tubby that you need to post an update! Time is ticking…

#15

Thanks you two. Im gonna update soon, Ill probably be up all night working in painter I forgot about that… ARR!!! so yeah see you guys tomorrow hehe. -Jeremy-:buttrock: :buttrock:

So im modeling like 3-4 things at once and working and going to doing my other school activities. Here is where I am. Tell me what you think. Im gonna spend most of this weekend modeling. The head is going to be extremely more detailed than it is, the back leg, and the torso is gonna be bony/fleshy.

Tell me what you all think, especially about the protruding bone for the elbow area(might continue thruought the mesh if it looks good. Thanks -Jeremy- :wip: :wip:

#17

definately, I really like the bone sticking out! In fact that’s what I was planning on doing, burden being stretched skin with hooks connecting to the soals of the damned! hehe… but to many other things in life keeping me to busy right now, so it’s not looking like I’ll jump in. So, I say, since I don’t get to and you’re doing a great job so far, carry it thru the model I think it will add a lot of origionality and interests to the character. Don’t forget to make a painful look on it’s face, it would hurt to move with broken bonez stickin out, yo!

#18

Wow thanks  I would love to see some of your work sometime if you could attach a link to some of your stuff  Im glad you like my character It is soo hard to find time to work on my stuff because of work and school and other things. How do you like seattle? Its nice to speak with Somewhat local artists. Anyway Im rambling, but I was wondering what you would think if I made it into almost like a primative form of armored vehicle like with some large ribcage bones sticking up on top like bars protecting whatever goods they are carrying and like bones wood and iron armor primarily hanging on legs face and belly for protection (it is large) Just an idea I might make a concept like that, post it and see what sort of response I get from people. Anyway thanks. :stuck_out_tongue: -Jeremy-

I LOVE  the details on the elbow! I think that protruding bone design is incredable. I’d love to see versions of that on the knuckles of the fingers/claws and on the knees. Great stuff so far. I really like the proportions of this beast. It looks tough as nails.
