Beast of Burden- Character- H2600

I don’t have a concept sketch or 3d rough yet but I wanted to get my idea out before someone else steals it

I’m going to do a large turtle that will be capable of dragging HUGE loads behind him albeit at a slow speed. He’ll probably be showing a grumpy/angry look , I don’t think turtles like working very much. I’m at work right now and don’t have access to photoshop so I’ll post a concept sketch when I get home later tonight.

Be forewarned, I’m horrible at drawing so don’t expect too much from me.

'k here is the concept. He’s going to be a pack-tortise, a giant galapagos turtle that had been harnessed to carry heavy rock loads from the quarry.

…and i thought i was really bad at drawing :stuck_out_tongue:

:applause:

ahah …

This is how far I got tonight, obviously in dire need of refinement to say the least. If anyone had any modeling advice, feel free to give it.

For compairison, this is one of my reference pictures:

Hmm…coming along pretty good actually… I think you need more of a bottom to the leg…right now it’s kind of seeming more like a sea turtle… How does it work when smoothed? I’d say give it more ‘room’ in the shell and make it feel more like that weird membrane across the entire front opening (big flap of skin connecting arms and head) than individual openings for the legs. As a default pose before moving that seems right though, but then they’re just so WEIRD.

Anyway don’t mean to ramble, just been looking at a bunch of tortoises myself since my thing’s legs may need to resemble them a bit. I dunno.

“What’s a tortoise?” “Know what a turtle is?”
“Yeah.” “Same thing.”
“Do you make up these questions yourself Mr. Holden, or does someone write them down for you?”

Okay, here is another version, this time smoothed, I fattened his legs up and made the shell a little more curvy. C&C welcome.

#8

Okay here are some more updates, now he’s got back legs and a tail.

From the back:
(note: the tail is mostly a placeholder at the moment)

C&C would be appreciated

Come one everyone, the “little guys” need comments too. We’re not all Matt Clarks or Pascal Blanches.

So what’d ya’ll think of my turtle so far?

Before all…Nice to see u again in acction!Hey guys …an incredible number of entyes this time!
about ur character…
the idea is cool, and the model seem to be good.
IM NONE,but however i give my opinion…
The way u model the top of the turtle may not help u to add 3d datails as flakes or so.(just an impression,i dont see the wireframe so i can only imagine).
The head and the legs are extruded from the body right. If so,may not work well…i think is better cut out legs and heads,or give A LOT of attention at the link point between every part.
The last thing on the head…it looks to be too flat…u may scale it in Y a bit…
Well just opinions, can we see the wire?:wavey:

#13

Now that I figured out how to do it ;). I can show you a wireframe shot. Mabye now I can get some insightful comments on the turtle. :curious:

#14

Oops, forgot the wireframe:
