As far as his size goes I felt that “heavy loads” was pretty subjective:) Maybe it will make more sense with the background.
Despite their somewhat slow witted appearance, the creatures are actually quite bright. Their high intelligence is hindered however by a lack of opposable thumbs (or hands at all for that matter!). After their ancestral grazing grounds were overrun by 5-fingered land developers and used to build condos, they found a niche in the service industry as rickshaw drivers. Sadly however the only way to do this was to enter into indentured servitude with an owner who services their rickshaw and takes a large cut of their earnings. Their intelligence, good directional sense and pleasant demeanor make them quite suitable for the job. A set of powerful hind legs allow them to pull disarmingly heavy loads, albiet they do become fatigued after a long day ferrying their bipedal oppressors…ahem excuse me, i mean “customers” back and forth to their beauty and shopping appointments. They stand a good 7 feet tall from ground to shoulderblade, while their passengers are generally of average human height.
beast of burden - character - dosadi -
I thought I might add another post… his face is pretty much done… I’ll start on the legs in a bit… Now that there is a little more to show how about some comments folks?
:thumbsdow

lookin’ cool!! but are you going for a cute or rather a mean/evil look?
and will there be a character sitting in…hmmm…don’t know the name of it…whatever… i mean this thing he’s pulling!
>>Lukashi and Gabe
Thanks!
>>Derwolpertinger:
Well hes definitely not evil… I’m trying to make the character as likable as possible. He’s a nice guy who’s stuck in a bad situation. So not mean, but maybe just downtrodden. As far as another character goes, it depends on how much time I have left after doing him and the cart. I think another character would definitely help tell his story though. Maybe a big porker of a fellow will be riding in the cart, oblivious to the plight of the beast pulling him around.
THis will be a good one. I like your sketch, it’s also got a great story to go with it (dam oppressive owners). THe model looks like its coming along well. I’ll have to keep an eye on this thread.
Oh, man! I’m lovin that sketch! ![]()
I love the eye detail you’ve got in the model, but I think you should drop the camera a bit more to show the lower jaw. It will really help make the expression more readable, IMHO.
Thanks everybody!!! I was worried at first cuz nobody was replying to my thread…
Yeah… you can’t really see the lower jaw in that render… It will be visible in the final, tho!
he is so cool looking…The head is looking great! love the small ears and the eyes are great…I always have the hardest time with the eyes…I can never get the damn eyelids to work right…I would love to see a close up wire of his head for some insite!!
Keep up the great work!![]()
Haven’t had much time to work on him this weekend, but I do have a small update of a wireframe as per Bezerker’s request:

this is my first challenge and everybody’s encouragement has meant quite a lot to me… so thanks!
he man…thanks for the wire…looking nice…that helps alot…I think I may use you eyelid technique for future Eyelids…!!![]()
So haven’t had a whole lot of time… School projects keep getting in the way… Here is the latest little update… still need to finish his back legs and tweak his “hooves”

Let me know how you think he’s coming along.
Another little update. Sorry for the broken links earlier. I’m gonna try to finisk him this weekend before I leave for SigGraph.

heres another one from tonight… getting late gotta take a break…

I’m having trouble with the back feet… any suggestions? I know the tail looks too straight, but I haven’t rigged 'em yet.
