I’m doing the details no to show the weight of the beast.
I really like this one. I think your work is coming along quite well. And I know I said this before but I really like the scale you gave the creature.

Thanks
Im doing some sketches for the harness now
I didn’t want to make the harness until I saw how it would come along. I think in real life you would make the harness to fit the beast no the otherway around.
Thank for the input though.
I should take a break maybe even like go outside or something. This is to addictive.
What does it mean when the blue envelope icon next to your name has a black dot over it?
did I do something wrong?
Have I been black listed from the cgtalk community?
Oh no… calm down…must take ritalin…breath…all better now:D
tried to make one of those metal harness hoop thingies I see all the time. don’t know if i’ll use them. just wanted to see if I could do it. probably wont use it because I think it will be done alot in this challenge though.
might take a while to update again,( not that anyone cares)
just can’t figure out the best idea for a harness since he’ll be carrying his load in something like a backpack and a person on the back of his neck.
Any suggestions?
Lots of people are using those hoop things yes, but sometimes even in the real world they are very practicle, especially when connecting 3 or so strips together.
I like your design, the idea of the backpack is really brilliant, will look freaky, and the guy riding on his neck is really cool.
Anyway, I also only get replies from ZrO-1, so I thought I will reply to your thread as I simpathize with you. I would have left by now (like before) if ZrO-1 didn’t reply.
O yeah, by the way, almost forgot. The black dot means you replied in the thread. Nothing to worry about.
hey hey, good updates. I like the progress. As far as the metal rings to connect the straps: yes they are being used a lot in this challenge but I think its because in the real world ™ they are used often in harnesses and they look really cool
As far as it in your piece I think a couple well placed rings in stratiegic places would work well. Just dont have one at every place two straps cross.
The rigging looks good. It’s kinda hard to tell until you start animating it but all the joints look to be in the right places.
Right now i’m not going to envelope I’m just making sure the skeleton will move properly and everything is parented properly and constrained properly. I still have alot to add to the model as far as detail to his muscle structure but being that I’m not the most experienced the progress will slow down dramatically sinc I have the basics.
those rings I think i’m gonna use a couple but I’m trying to make a different kind of buckle but we’ll see.
The one problem I’m having is making strap the form th the body.
I tried drawing spline around the body that i would extrude polygons on but that didn’t look to hot.
If anyone had any suggestions on how to do that i’d appreciate it.
thanks for the comments zro-1 your bob is my favorite at the moment especially the carriage now that I see it put together.
back to work now.
You’re using SoftImage right? Does that app have a ‘draw curve on surface’ feature? If so you could do that and then point constrain your straps to the curve.
To be honest I never tried that, so I’m not sure it would work. but it sounds like it might.
well i dont quite know how cloth works in xsi yet but i do know in Maya, turning those straps into cloth and let them drape is probably best but not very easy on the processor
As far as i know… you can only draw curves on nurbs?
zro_1:
I’ll give it a try. Thanks for the suggestion.
crode:
You only can draw on nurbs surface. maybe I’ll make a nurbs surface similar to the body of the beast and then try I don’t know.
right now I’m working on the rig.
thanks guys
Heres an idea for the burden part.
I wanted sort of a sack like a sling back pack.
maybe its a stupid idea, let me know either way.
started seat on back of neck. I think it’s hideous right now so I will have to put in some major work to make it look decent.
Not the most spectacular update but an update none the less.
Character is rigged. Now I’m weight for the first time ever so might take a while to get it right.
Any body got any input so far I know it’s not completely done but I’m working at it.:wavey:
I like the backpack idea, but a sling style? You must be spending to much time around those trendy Manhattan-ites. (LOL just kidding) Seriously, the backpack is a cool idea. Everyone else seems to be just piling all the stuff on their beasts backs and tieing it down with rope. Your idea is a good one.
That chair reminds me of those beanbag chairs that you use on the floor while watching TV…you know the ones I mean?
I think the shoulder joints in your rig are either too low or too deep right now. A real shoulder is rotated at the top/outside/front of the muscle. Right now yours looks like its on the bottom/inside of the muscle.
hehehe aren’t you glad I decide to comment on your work?
