Beast of Burden - Character - DKScully

#41

Ok, I didn’t mean to hurt people sensibility…

Teapot is just a reference for possing the character… to show how he is going to haul cargo

#42

@ Are3d and JFrench: are you guys reading the thread or just looking at the pictures? :stuck_out_tongue:  If you read this you’ll see that it’s a nod at siggraph, meant to be funny to people who know those sorts of things  LOL.

#43

actually I think you should keep the teapot - In it´s own way it´s quite original

#44

The teapot is the architype of all 3d. It is the single-celled amoeba/polygon that grew into the organism of high level modelling we all know. It is the ultimate beginning. It is the alpha and the omega…

It holds tea. :stuck_out_tongue:

Personally, I think the scene looks great! Great spin on an old tradition.

#45

you forgot the Yin and Yang

Polygonal Zen

#46

thats really one of the best and funniest characters I have ever seen

and I also like the teapot

:applause:

#47

Thank you very much. I’ve to work and learn more to get a better character… But It’s a start…

Do you have any idea for the cargo?.. I’ve some but not time… I’ll try this week…

#48

As I said earlier just keep the teapot and put the details into the character. Don´t worry about the cargo, the teapot is just as good as anything else displayed in this comp. You´ve already showed your modellng skills in the donkey and as Zro-1 stated most of us know where it´s coming from. Hope to see more updates…soon

#49

A nuew pair of arms for him… But… may be they looks too human?.. I’ll fix hands and pose him with a cargo… and then may be will be more beast like…

 What do you think???

thank for all your kind words… They make me work a little more every day… and learn… learn learn…

#50

The modeling is looking great. I love all the little details. I think the new arms are definetly too humanoid. But the beast looks cool overall.

#51

pretty unbelievable that i missed this thread! great work so far!:buttrock:

#52

Too humanoid ´(I´ve never been called that :stuck_out_tongue: ) and somehow I don´t agree. Does a beast need fangs´n shit ? - don´t think so. It could have a beastly personality which you then would have to illustrate through his (the donkeys) facial expression.
I think that you should put some bumpmaps on him/her to show some scratches and wear´n tear - I know that it´s a WIP though.

Otherwise you could but some replacement parts on him. Put a mechanoid arm or something else on him.

If you decide to keep the teapot, which I hope you do, be aware that there´s the line between being original and just being plain old kliché is hairthin.

Otherwise super modelling - keep rocking dem polys.

#53

Thank you, this help me moreee and moree…

GReat idea Bump maps… The wire in the arms is not very good… I’ll try to fix it if I had time… I’ll put some bump maps and some elements more: Harness, Emblem, some more little things…

I’ll fix hands a little more too…

May be you could see an animation soon… or not soon…

Thaaaaaankssssssss

#54

Wires in the arms ??? Do you mean veins, muscles etc…?
If so I think you should forget about it. Ok you could add a little. But I don´t think that yor character lends itself to adding tons of little details - it´s too cartoonish. That´s actually a compliment in these photorealistic days. Doesn´t he look a little too pleased and relaxed considering he´s dragging a teapot that big???

Well its your model - just sharing my thoughts on it ok?

What about the cargo ? have you made up your mind.

My advice would be to be careful not to start rigging/animating before your model is (almost) done - actually that´s just a waste of time in an image competition - right?

update…now :buttrock:

#55

Yes you’re right… I’ll finished it before rigging…

I say wire (the Wireframe, the polys… are not very regular…) It’s not very good in the arms… not ordened… Do you understand? my english it’s not very good ;-(((( I supouse It’s doesn’t mater at this time…

And you’re right, the pose it’s too relax right now… that’s whay I want to rigg it, to pose and make it tired… or tension… :-))) (Grrrrr I can’t express myself :-))))))

I hope you understand me ;))))

I’ll make some facila expresions too… to give it more life…

Thanks Anyway… Don’t be shy and tel me everythig you want or you think… I like it… C&C… Good for learning…

#56

Everything you said makes perfect sense. As english is my secondary language too, I was thinking in other terms when you said wires - my fault.

#57

 That’s Ok… you are helping me a lot with you commentaries…

#58

Hi, I think I’ve almost finished the character model… Now I’ll pose it with cargo and render final… What do you think?

#59

first time I saw this post…looking real niec…great modeling job!!
the only crit I have thus far is that the ears seem to be attatched really low on the head…maybe just move them up a bit!! can’t wait to see him posed with his cargo!

#60

Yeah I agree with the ear issue.

Can´t wait to see if you´ve kept the teapot:)
