I’ve been watching these WIP challenges for the last few months and decided taht i am going to take a stab at the challenge this MOntht. This is a quick sketch of my beast of burden. The idea behind him is to be a crop planter. He uses his long beak-like stout and flat clawed feet to dig the trenches for the seed which is dispenced by the contraption which i have yet to design.
Beast of Burden - Character/contraption - tgmajor
Great idea with the BoB planting stuff in the fields. I think this one could be really cool.
DETAIL DETAIL DETAIL DETAIL !
He’s meant o be under a burden, so having some kind of musculature is a must for realism (or even toonish) or maybe just bones showing through the skin. It’s all blocked out now, so go in there and define the joints, add bulges away from the joints and bones, and then make sure you loose flesh sags, for a large part it may even become concave.
The toes could just go wild - tonails, wrinkles etc.
How is the beak structure suported is it a beack or does it have flesh stretched over it? If so, then sagin flesh underenight could alos be added.
The eyes and brow region should have some kind of eyelids, and maybe sagging flesh underneith, most land animals don’t have “round” [looking] eyes for the simple reasons of dust and bright sun.
Horn needs fleshyness arroud the base as well.
Keep going, you have somthing unique, but define and refine it!
You don’t have to do all the things I said exactly, but just try and add a more solid, rolling, fatty, living feeling

A little simple, and maybe a bit undetailed, but i feel good looking at this work…It reminds me something like Greek wagon…just like an old painting about the greek heroes and divinity…so,keep it up.
I agree with the others…you have a good start…now you just need to go CRAZY with the details. Try to use some reference material of animals that dig and then try to work that musculature and form into you piece. Keep us posted!
Yes i agree with all of your comments. Unfourtunately i havent been able to work on the contest since i got a new job this month. Maybe ill finish the next one i start.
