Heres a concept sketch for my beast.
Beast of Burden - Character/Contraption - SplineGod
This is a quick spline cage I created based roughly on the concept sketch. Im using lightwave.
This is the patched cage. The nice thing about splines in lightwave is that you can patch manually so that you can control the resolution of each patch easily.
Ive now divided the polys up into surface groups and have given them basic colors. Ive also turned on SubDs
I have begun to add the legs. Right now I have the thigh region, added some basic details and done some more adjusting. At this stage I have about an hour of modeling into my beast. More to come as I have time.

LOL, Dont expect miracles. I dont have much time to devote but I do need a break sometime.
Great to have you on board Larry. I know Iāve learned a TON about Lightwave from your many helpful posts on Newtekās forums. Keep up the great work!
Holy crap! Lary Shultz is in this one now!!!
I better get cracking on my BoB if I want to place in the top ten ;). The bird is looking nice. Especially for only an hour of work. Iāll be watching this one closely.
Great to have you in this mess too.
If there is a god of splines then we all truly are vertex points in the one universal model of extremely high polycount.
Nice work Splinegod
Heres another update. Ive added some details on the head, added a helmet and messing with it as I get a break.

ROFL! Thanksā¦very poetic
Heres where mine currently standsā¦I took some time to add the legs and saddle but have a bit more to do.
Thatās looking really nice. The bird (especially the head) reminds me of the extinct Elephant Bird from South America. I like this one a bunch.
Larry, I agree with everyone else, it is cool to see you in the challange, I too have learned quite a bit from your website and your posts on the newtek page. If i could be so daring as to give a suggestion to the master himself. When I think of āBeast of Burdenā the thought of (trying to describe this) a really weighed down, and visibly weary creature comes to mind. Your creation looks great, but just seems to be looking a bit too, oh i dunno, i guess ācheerfulā would be a good word. It looks to happy to be lugging whatever it is carrying around right now. Hehe, which is not of course to say that i am the end all and be all of who can define Beast of Burden.
Anyhoo, best of luck! Post some updates!!!

LOL, I agreeā¦Im actually going to do that. Im working on some sort of cart that he will be pulling so I can make it look like hes really working on something heavy! Thanks for the suggestions!
