Beast of Burden - Character/contraption - shaun lupton

#1

Just to get my thread up.

I liked the topic but dont know if I will be able to do much with this challenge for im currently working on a 5 minute short, but if time allows it, I promise you a superb piece.

#2

ive been working on the whole thing face and everything but decided to post the face first, I just started, havent spent nearly enough time on the face that I will eventually. You guys will like the idea I am going to come up with, just be patient. Ive decided to not take this challenge into photrealism, but rather then cartoony realism, if you catch my drift, probably wont win, but you will like what ive come up with, when my scanner works, Ill throw up the sketches

#3

side view. Just a quick bump map added to it, no textures…

#4

hehehe awesome face. I hope you get to work on this. It looks like it could be a good one.

#5

another update on the head… body tommarrow hopefully. Im going to see if I can get the whole thing done in a week, any extra tie will go to detail. peace, im out!@

#6

another, udated it tonight C@C always welcome…

#7

yet another update. Looks like ive gotten, hrmmm… 1 reply, hrmmm. se la vi! ill keep updating until this thing is done. Im attaching the 3d version and a sort of sketched mouse version to get a better idea of where im going. Detail will be imense when finished.

#8

3d version…

#9

haha very funny indeed, im not getting many comments too… thats lots of ppl participating… its hard i guess, keep the good work dud

#10

LMAO that’s great! what a hilarious idea. very cool.

#11

Hey, thanks for the comments guys, my self esteem to finish this thing just went up a notch. Latelly ive been an insomniac, so ive actually had time to work on this challenge other than just the short im doing. More updates on the way. HA, wait till its finished, I havent even begun on expression and detail with thest 2 yet. The donkey will look like hes been holding a crap for 3 days, and the guy/monster? will be a dirty heavy duty traveler, sort of like the doner party if anyone is familiar with US history.

tnx for the C&C

:applause: At first i thought the humanoid character was the beast, but no it’s the donkey, he he, a good classic and very well done, it’s promising.

#13

Looks kinda like the Donkey from Shrek, Awsome work man, a great classic, accentuated by some darn fine modeling! Keep it up!

#14

Sweet idea! This is looking good! I love the guy’s face. :applause:

The donkey reminds me of Eddie Murphy, though. I keep hearing him saying “In the morning, I’m makin’ waffles!” lol

#15

tnx for the replys. Dont worry, when im done with the donkey, whether I throw a mo hawk or give hime one eye. He wont look anything like the donkey from shrek. I just need a donkey with real small proportions is all and a hell of a lot of emotion. If your wondering the approach im taking modeling it. Im going piece by piece so I can throw everything into layers to work on each individual detail, and then ill combine it in the end or when I think suitable. tnx for the replys.

hope you like…

#16

ah ah ,hilarous ,love it ,cool ,and yes i have some simiklar things to Donkey in Shrek ,but its a good ,a really comments compliment i think…he he …keep it up

#17

Ha,thats a pretty funny concept.

#18

tnx for the comments guys. Once I get everything together and complete, Ill start on the fine detailing and expressions, I still have a ton of modeling to do for this thing. Youll see. Here are the boots. Just regualr old cowboy boots…

#19

heres the regualr render…

Cool!

I was thinking along the same lines when I first read ‘beat of burden’ - little animal, big fat oaf riding it…

it’s nice to see the idea come to fruition (and probably about 10 times better then I would have in about 10000th of the time!)

All looks great - especially the donkey, as the other guys have said - it’s very Shrek, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing!
