Beast of Burden - Character/contraption - Mattman

#30

:bounce: Oh Mattman i really love you compact rihno!!! He’s so cut and strong at the same time!!!
Some advises:

The eye is too small. And you should tweak a little the eye part of the head. Look at your sketch, the eye should be in the same line than the shoulder fold.

Keep going dude yours is a winner!!

#31

thanks for the crits… you’re right about the eye thing. i will have to make some adjustments on the shape of the head, too, which might fix it…

#32

quick update, just started the front foot

:buttrock:

#33

Awesome! This beast is gonna be slow, but can probably walk right through a 1m thick concrete wall without as much as blinking…

The sketches are a nice touch, so we can see how your beast was evolving in your head! Now the models seems to be turning out equally well, keep up the good work!

:applause:

#34

Nice Matt, very nice, keep going  !!

#35

if you stick to the sketch this will be my favourite BoB, I love this “character”

#36

Absolutely adore your design - it’s one of those subtley brilliant ideas that makes you go “Damn… I wish that was my BoB!”.

If you’re model gets even 50% of the level of character in your design then you’re onto a winner for me!

Have a clapping green grinning round thing – > :applause:

Oh and MORE!!!

#37

Wow! The impression of weight you get from the model is perfect! I love the design!

#38

thanks for the feedback. here’s the latest update, i alternate between wings3d and maya, depending on where i am working from…

Kory:

thanks. i love the artwork in your portfolio! inspiring, since i’m trying to become a better painter…

#42

I really love the playfullness of this piece. And yet it is a very tight model. Really great stuff. I look forward to the finished product!

#43

just another update

#44

smoothed…

anyone want a different view? just let me know

#45

Your 3d character does not show the same emotion of your sketch which i liked so much.
Give him deeper rings around his eyes (don’t know the correct term for that  ). In your sketch he looked more defensive like beeing afraid of a stronger animal. Maybe work on that!
But apart from that: great!

#46

thanks for the advice. yes, i had forgotten to capture the emotion, but then again i didn’t have an emotion in mind for my concept sketches…lack of thought/depth in concept? probably

#47

Looks great :), Very original character

BTW: what is wing 3D? It looks like Nendo to me, is it similar? What are the benefits of modeling there? Is it hard to export/import between Maya/wings3D?

#48

wings3d is a free app. some guy couldn’t purchase Nendo (ever try to buy a license to Mirai?) and decided to write his own app. it has most of the functionality of Nendo, and is updated quite often by the guy. it can import and export .obj and .3ds files, among several others (if u want to import/export between wings and maya, you’ll need the obj import plugin for maya)…once you get used to the interface, the tools are great…especially for a free modeling package! - but, no rendering…
