Beast of Burden - Character/Contraption - Erilaz

#1

Okay! Here’s my first beast idea. I’m going for a giant exhausted tortoise. I’m still working out whether I’m going to have him pulling things or bearing things on his shell (the latter being more predictable).

#2

First bit of modelling. I’m not really happy with this. Obviously I’ve got a lot of tweaking to do, but that’s why they call them WIPs I guess!

#3

I almost forgot! I did some quick drawing at work when I read about the challenge. I’ll post these tomorrow!

#4

A bit more progress. Starting to look like something!

#5

Here’s a little more. I’m trying to show you as much step by step progress as possible, if that’s okay. Tell me if I’m posting too many steps!!:hmm:
I’ll probably redo the bumps on the shell… a little too symmetrical, a little too rough!

#6

Love the steps, lets us see how your mind works… which could be a bad thing if you suddenly go mental on us :stuck_out_tongue:

What’s his scale? Is he a big or little dude? I really like your idea to make him exhausted. Beast of burden would be a rough job!

Keep up the good work!!

My Fault

#7

I’m still working out the scale. I’m thinking either a bit larger than your standard tortoise (about the size of a lion), or to go for something a lot larger, like elephant-sized.
I was thinking to make him like a peddler’s ware-horse or something. We’ll see.

#8

Here’s those sketches as promised!

#9

And another…

#10

This was another idea. Just put it up because it happened at the same time as the tortoise.

#11

A bit of work on the head, plus a rework of the shell.

#12

I’m not going to be able to work on this again until Sunday, so let me know how it’s coming along!

Everyone is thundering along with this challenge, so I might have to catch up quite a bit after missing two days! :scream:

#13

Okay! Back with more news on where this idea is going. I’m heading for a “Tortoise and the Hare” scenario, where the hare has become a vicious pirate and enslaves the tortoise to carry it’s treasure. Pretty corny, I know, but it will be fun to model, especially a bipedal rabbit with an eye-patch.:surprised

Arrrr! (Etc.)

#14

Here’s the base design of the chest. No surprises here…

#15

Will the chest be wooden, or made from a “modern” material?

#16

I’m going for a riveted metal look, with those standard strong-box bands of reinforced steel. I want to make it look as heavy as possible for the poor shelled creature.

#17

Just a quick question:
How do I make my signature a link? You can see below that it’s just plain old text which would get annoying if anyone wanted to actually look at my thread and make some comments. :hmm:
I don’t have HTML set on, so is there a way to do it with vB?

#18

Try putting the “URL” brackets around the link manually. In your sig’s text.

Thanks ZrO-1!

Here’s a quick draft preview. I’ve got a lot to do yet! There may be more than one object on there later.
