Beast of Burden - Character/Contraption - axxxj

#1

Hey there everyone this is my first time posting on these boards and my first time doing a challenge. This one especially caught my attention as i’m just teaching my self how to model charachters, in preperation for my second year at uni doing high and low poly modelling.
This is a quick photoshop sketch to show what poped into my had as i read the rules, but i feel it may be too similar to what everyone else is thinking so i might change it a little latter.

Anyway hopes u like it. (by the way i’m not a brilliant artist)

AJ.

Hello all i’ve haven’t really done a lot on the challenge yet but i’ve come up with a new design based on a elephant, after seeeing them hauling logs around i wanted to have a beast similar to it.

Tell me what you think, i’m not sure if it’s too similar to a elephant so and crits would welcome.

Very nice drawings, but I’m just trying to work out why it’s carrying a hot air balloon!
Don’t worry about not being too original, I tend to find that once an idea gets going, it’s the little details that makes all the difference. You’ve got a good concept, now just work it!

hi, i love the first beast with the horn on his back take the first one without balloon

I like the trunk on the second one, maybe take the first without the balloon and add the trunk?

I agree with the above post, If all he has to haul is a hot air balloon, I’ll do it for him! Good sketches tho!

Hey thanks for your feedback guys. I’ve just started to rough out the elephant one but i might still change it. Not done alot on the challenge yet due many things happening at the same time so don’t know if i’ll finish it but it’s all good practice.

Cheers AJ

This beast looks like it would be able to pull more than the light load that this blimp can hold up. Seems innificient to me.

The hot air balloon type thimg was just an idea i had in which the load was so heavy that it needed some additional help to get it off the ground so the beast could then haul it along. The balloon is way too small to do this but it was just a quick sketch. I don’t even think that i will include it in the final idea.

Thanks for the crit though.

Just saw pascals post and i started to do some moddeling straight off the bat (so to speak) and have made a pair of really strange back legs!!!

Anyway thanks.

Elephant slash Camel - Certainly appeals to me!

if the load was too heavy and the air ballons could pick it up the only thing the beast would have to do is overcome air friction, hehe and anyone could do that. cool idea tho

Yeah now you mention it it was a pretty crazy idea… oh well. (never was any good at physics  )

Anyway i started to model this and i’m quite liking the way it’s turning out (this is my first proper model… just discovered meshtools  )

Did this in 45 mins so i’m quite pleased with it. Not anatomically correct but i like some of the shapes of the legs so will have to work on it some more.
