Holy sh… How’s that possible you get so much details, are all the architecture yours? The statues? That’s fantastic, how do you mange o get all of that so perfect? No crits at all, simple a work of a true artist.
Beast of Burden - Character & Contraption - Apt Pupil

very nice decorative work. are you planning on doing the phoenix also? time’s a-tickin’! if you are, i can’t wait to see what THAT looks like!
Another Update,
I should be working on the church, but I branched off and started working on the middle section instead:p I will get medieval on the church as soon as I finish the mid stuff (I am going to put cannons in heheeheh). Until then . . . (note, I notice that I have a few proportional issues, i.e the turbine engine casket is so thick, it’s dwarfing everything else. But I will fix this towards the end when the final corrections commence)
Mattman --> Pheonix? oh boy, I will try. The part that has me worried is the figure head on the boat. When I hit that, work will come to a stand still. But, we will see. Thanks.
Joebount -->
Thanks.
Crash --> the trueth is, although you see alot of details, the statues and stuff are not entirelly anatomically correct. That would be like painting a tea cup in the window of a 20 story building pictured from 2 blocks away. I create just enough details to pass it off as believable, but dont expect any “extreme” closeups:p As for the architecture, well, I use reference for that. I look at famous buildings and create something of my own through that. That is how we learn, and artists ‘do’ need to expand on there base knowledge so we can become even more creative in our approaches. But yup, if your asking if I modelled everything, yup. And so far, it took 3 days
Dmcgrath --> Thanks, it means alot. I’ll keep pushing.
Tubby --> thanks buddy, hey, I have seen an update from you recently, I am anxious to see your bird rigged and up and running. You too, keep up the good work!!
I’ll be honest. When I saw your sketch, I was blown away, but I never thought you’d be able to model it. Way too much detail. I stand corrected! This is one of those amazing models that, if I didn’t see it appearing before my eyes, would swear was done in miniature, not CG. Amazing work, Apt Pupil! Can’t wait to see more!
Steve
hi, thats really amazing apt pupil… how do you do that? im fairly new to 3d… do you actually connect all those pillars and stuff to the arm rails and stuffwith vetex welding? or are they separate pieces? would love to see a tutorial sometime … keep going cant wait to see more! ![]()
Hey there Nikodemus,
I don’t recommend welding all the vertex’s if you were to create something like mine
Because then you would have to create everything manually instead of mass duplicating everything with the instance feature (copy, or mirror, and check instance). If you do it this way, then when ever you have to change all the pillars, you just have to modify one, and presto, they all mold the same way. So to answer your question, it’s all bit’s and pieces:)
And I am not sure but I will mention two other tidbit I just freaking found out myself:)
1: When you have an item or object at an angle, don’t try to modify it (moves vertexs and such) at that angle. Create a copy that is “intanced,” align that copy properly, and then modify it and see the changes happen to your original item. (sob this would have saved me quite some time if I knew about this before I started)
2: The difference between an “edit poly” and an “edit mesh” is that if you plan to slice and dice your model, for the love of McDonalds, use the “edit poly.” All the cuts and slices will not generate ‘random’ vertexs everywhere (70% of the time) like the “edit mesh does.” (another feature I just found out sob)
There, now with this, you are ready to take on the world heheheheh. I hope this helped, and perhaps, I will see some work from you in the near future. Good Luck
and thanks for the compliments.
wow im amazed thats beautiful… cant… say more… just … waiting for upgreats, great work
thanks for the tips Apt Pupil… i will try to keep those in mind as i make progress on my BoB … i tend to think too far ahead it seems which slows me up… but i think thats because i havent done 3d very long and dont know the procedure/tools very well .
Sweet McDonalds, it should be you who is giving me advice!! slaps you on the back of the head Your entry is coming along sweetly!! Geeze, cOoL looking character you got there. I can’t wait to see him finished. And you went to siggraph too
you lucky lucky person . …
As for mine, Modeling a church was not one of my brightest ideas, oh boy. … .
Steve Warner --> hehehehe, I have the feeling you are not the only one who thought me quite mad
Sweet. I’d critique and tell you to smooth some edges, but I’m sure you’re on top of that!
Keep it coming Apt Pupil. I want a wallpaper from you at the end of this challenge!
Well, I should post my recent version without the hidden items, but, that would take time away from my work
So here is a test render I did yesterday. Once again, it’s at crap dpi, but … .like I said, no time sob
Otherwise, things are coming along smoothly. However, this is certainly one of my toughest contests. My ass hasn’t left the chair unless for sleep or for a run to the kitchen to grab some easy food.
I am determined to finish this darn thing grrrrrrrrrrr:mad:
Thanks guys for the encouragement.
what´s going on here - that was crasy - all that detail - go for it - i hope u finished it :bounce:
Yes that is some sweet architecture modeling. Ive found that when I like what Im working on, ill stay up all night working on it. And that time sure goes fast. Sounds like your feeling the same way
Im sure you will finish with that kind of pace, keep going at it
Holy Wendys mother of McDonalds!! (hehehe trying to use the fast food explatives as well as you Apt
) This piece is already rediculously awesome, I really want to see it completed.
I’ve already said how awesome I thing the design is and all of the 3D is looking at LEAST as great as the designs. Really fantastic work so far.
Thanks guys. I swear, I will post better resolution pictures tomorrow
:wip: :wip: :wip: :wip:
Holy Bargain Buckets!
That’s a Kentucky load of finger licking detail in there…
It makes my processor weep in fear just looking at it!
I’ll definitely take some fries with this
