This will be my first challenge. Hope nobody else is making a mink or other small rodent for their beast…
Beast of Burden - Character - BrainFaucet
Well it seems my beast looks likes a giant guini-pig… although not intended.
Like your concept.
Here’s what I have so far.
And I apoligize for my less than great drawing skills… and the fact that I had no idea what a mink looked like. Took me a while to find references.
Oh, and anyone have suggestions on how best to do fur? Will using Maya fur be considered in judging? Or should I just not worry about making fur on this little guy?
It is looking really good. ![]()
The upper part of the front leg looks a little too big though. Maybe blend it with the body a little less until further up. Looking forward to seeing more.
Pink & Bald, eh? okay!
Well, I still need to make the back feet, the upper gums, claws, and most of the teeth, but this sucker is commin’ along just fine.
I don’t suppose there are any mink experts out there… I’m thinking of officially changing the critter’s species to ferret due to my lack of mink references and the fact that I’ve been using a lot of ferret images for references.
Oh, and I tried making the legs thinner, and they turned out really weird looking. I think I’ll try again later. Thanks for pointing that out, particle.
Hey, great progress so far. The model definetly looks like a ferret. That was the first thing that popped into my head before I even read the posts. It shouldn’t be a problem though because the Mink and Ferret are very closely related. All you’d really have to do to change it from a ferret to a mink is make the eyes smaller and the tail bushier. As far as fur, any fur and hair is allowed as long as it’s geometry so as long as maya’s fur is geometry or can be converted to geometry it should be fine. I’d pro’'ly keep all the fur on a seperate layer though so you could submit a version with and without the fur.
Just my 2 cents
Yay. I got a bit tired of modeling the body, so I took a break (Just need to make the bak feet anyway) and started modeling the Sadle and such.
Here is a wireframe… any suggestions on techniqe? I’m not all that great at modeling hi-poly things and am not used to having to keep quads. It’s a lot harder than I though it’d be.
Thanks!
That is looking really good. It might just have been the angle of the leg I didn’t like, it looks great now.
That saddle is great. The rolled up beding is a great touch. I am looking forward to seeing how this turns out. Good luck.
Didn’t get much time to work on 'im today… But I added some reins, a strap for the sadle and another miscelaneous pack on 'is back.
ZrO-1: Great suggestion, but unfortunately Maya fur is a post process and I don’t think I can convert it to geometry… I think I’ll just leave this fella pink and bald as Otacon has sugested. Thanks for the idea, though.
Sorry if this update is a little premature, but I’m trying to get an update a day so I make sure not to forget about this project.
very nice, i like it a lot, i like the details and the original idea!
great job man!:applause:
Keep going!
Check out my beast of burden here!
A few small improvements…
Added another box, a couple sticks, stakes, rope and a bag.
fun fun fun
Oh, and I have broken then “all quads” thing that I wanted to do… well I’m not stuck on how to, but with the box the corners are triangles and they work well… so… whatever.
Not trying to be a jerk, but shouldn’t you model the back feet before you start adding too many extras on to the back of the beast?

:hmm: You’re right… I’ve been putting them off.
And don’t be afraid to say stuff like that… I could always use a swift kick in the bum to get things going.
Well a fellow by the name of rube from a chatroom I frequent suggested I add some nuts… I know minks don’t eat nuts, but the rider has to eat too. I’ll also add a water pouch and rope to hold all of the stuff together. Those things on the top of the pile are a drum and a didgeridoo.
Oh, and I did back fee too! I still need to add claws, though.
Any critiques? I could use some. Anyone know what’s wrong with the bum? I can’t seem to get it to look right.
