Beast of Burden - Character - Beroc-LOD

#4

OK… maybe that wasnt it for today… I got to playing around with the eyes, and havin fun… so here is a pretty horrid dyno skin texture on my beast… cheers

#5

Hi Beroc,
Looking great, I love the head and muscle definition. An idea might be to give him thumbs cause for some reason he feels like he needs more support up front, might not be a prob though. Human ears are an interesting idea, I’m still trying to decide whether they suit him or not.

Very cool, can’t wait to see the next instalment.

cheers,
phil.

I really like the beast, nice muscles and face design. I but i dont like the texture. To me i think hed look better w/o it

#7

I love the eyes they look great. But I think the back feet look a bit too much like hands right now though.

#8

Thanks guys…

phil-I will end up tweeking the front feet, but decided the back ones had to go, so I spent a couple more hours redesigning them… I wanted, orignally the fronts to look like a pudgy little set, but it wound up being different somehow… guess I kinda got side tracked… The ears need to be tweeked a bit, the original thumbs I did for it show a small roundish human like ear, but the inner parts just dont seem to do it for me a the moment, it will be revised a bit, but should look pretty cool… I didnt want them to be to obtrusive… large ears would make it look a bit small IMO… when in the end, it should be about the size of an elephant… course, I have nothing for size reference… yet…

Lukashi-Textures are not important, though I am having fun with it, those textures wont be on any finals… course the whole thing is taking me a long time to produce to begin with… either way, thanks for the comments… and I was more interested to see how the light hit it…

OK… now here is new rear feet… they took a bit of time, and still need a bit of tweeking… I really want the toes to look more lefty righty type of thing… but that is all tommorrow…

#9

cool, love the new feet. Great work.

#10

I think I started off this whole thing with an idea… not really pics or thumbnails, but an idea… A beerwagon… though it has something to do with a beast of burden… It was the wagon I was really after…

This is part of the original idea…

Everybody loves Beer… Doh!

#11

I love the new feet, they look cool. And as far as the beer:
:buttrock:  :airguitar

#12

mesa like … it will look good when completed.

I would think about either removing the ears or changing them to beast ears (like a donkey, or with holes ala: a snake)

the feet look cool as hell and i like the detail around the eyes and nose… its got a good look.

cheers

Well guys, another day, another dollar… well a couple at least if you are gonna get by…

Time for another installment of…“Can he get it done?”, better known as… “Will he quit?”- ala - Beast Contest…

Well… actually, I am gettin close on the beast, the new feet/hoves, er… whatever worked out pretty good, I did some tweeking on the ears to make em look more like what I wanted… and yes, I wanted human like, or at least real small ears, cause… well I dont know why, but I did…LOL… Big beast ears or horns would not serve what I want, so that is out of the question…

OK… here is what I did…

Added the new feet
Shrunk the back end, and added hocks and legs to fit, this made him look very powerful…
added the ever lovable penis… (heh… can I say Penis on here?)
repositioned him in a good pose
Built a base(very important to keep it all together… wouldn’t want him looking like he was out in space… plus it added more then it took away…

So here are a couple of updates so you can see what all is going on there…

I am pretty happy thus far, and still have plans on the base and model, not to mention the harnes, leather, flags, and tidbits… I am thinking of making some peircings… for the creatures that own him to hang stuff on… after all… he is big, might as well use the realestate…LOL

 wow! just saw your beast for the first time(so much entries here:blush: )
i really like your beast- especially the muscle definition is pretty cool but also the way you shrunked the back looks awesome. what i suggest you could do is:
show us a more smoothed version.
get rid of the symetrical feeling. e.g. make some tooth bigger and some smaller. that would make him look more realistic. but i guess you were going to do that anyway.
and the surrounding place is not very good. it makes him look like he is about two inches high.
but as i said - a really great model you got there.

ahhh and btw. i’d love to have such a truck, too!!!

#16

Not as much time as I would have liked today, but I did some important stuff… textures and smoothing are one… I got to work on a “Driver” the other day, but didnt have time to upload a pic of it, either way, I am pretty happy with the hour or so I had to work… on the harness mostly… you know getting the bands to match the skin is pretty tough…

#17

OK… a little prelim of the driver…

#18

OK… got new ideas, and they will be much better then the old ones… sadly, the driver will loose his head, in favor of a more human one… The beer wagon it’self, will be another beast of burden, well almost… I spent some 8 hours modeling this, trying to get it as close to the few pics that I found of it…

Other then that, I intend to have a little bit of drama from some smaller creatures… All in all, it looks like the plan is comming together. Now if I can just finish it all in 2 weeks…

#19

A “friend” of mine almost accused me of stealing an infographica model for my truck… :argh: Which of course it is not… , but that is what you get when a car modeler does a contest… well this time at least… there was a purpose…

I have some more done, but haven’t had much time to do renderings… hopefully that will all be done tommorrow

:bounce:

It’s Comming…

#21

hey your BoB looks veeery good. but somehow i don’t like the truck. i think it is way too much saturated and looks too new to be in a desert. maybe you should make him look older with some modelled bumps and a bump map for sure. cause right now the truck and the BoB somehow don’t fit together very well.
that’s it, but as i said i love your BoB!! (hmmm…is it allowed to marry a BoB at all??:D) i’m lookin’ forward to an update bud!

#22

Hey beroc, that truck is awesome!!! Man it looks great. It would have taken me all challenge long just to model that with half the details you have going.
And that pic where the beast and truck are together looks really cool also. I’m sorry I don’t have any crits. I think everything looks great so far.

#23

Heh… I have enough crits of my own for all of ya, but the truck, which is not finished, will be mapped and detailed way more then what you see… still just under two weeks to go, next week will be dovoted to finishing the truck, and mapping it out right, but it will look old and rusty by the end, I do have some questions about the desert background, as some people here who are much better then me at mapping… I want the background to have tons of detail like different ground covers and stuff, and figure the best way to do it is by procedural blends, kinda mixing back and forth, is there any key to it, or do you use a map which has certian area’s blocked off and mix it? What are the best types of maps to use, are there any in Max 3 which could benefit in making ground effects, or am I stuck with making a huge bitmap for the background?

Lots of questions for a non mapped contest I know, but shoot, I might as well make it look good in the end…

Thanks guys,
