Beast of Burden - Beastie - NeilyB

#21

NeilyB, that new model is absolutely amazing! It looks incredable. I love the expressivness you have modeled into the face, and the details in the back legs… Awesome!

I like the beginings of your mine-car train contraption.
Really fantastic work so far Neily!

Thanks zR-o1…

Well, I’m to that point where I don’t want to tweak too much and go overboard…you know the feeling…one more chip with the chisel and it all shatters…
But i need some inspiration for the harness…maybe I will also include the carriages as a contraption?

…for tonight…I shall sleep on it…after a beer!

#23

Just setting the scene a bit here…but due to its not counting I shall make it not too detailed…

#24

Coming along really great! Very impressive work so far. I’d definately work on adding some volume to the shoulder area, right now the way it’s built makes the arms not look like they would function very well. Maybe if you add some pistons and gears to give it a big, strong, kind of even shoulder pad look to them?

#25

IMPRESSIVE WORK:eek: Only remark would be the slightly blocky muscles - but that might just be intentional!? Hope u find time to finish this!!!

#26

Hey man, annother nice update. i have to agree with rhid1en about the shoulders. They are the only thing (IMO) that looks a little wonky. Everything else is rockin!

#27

i had totally missed this thread, Doh!
Awesome work neilyb.

Only suggestion wourld be to raise the bar it is pushing on, looks like it should be pushing from the chest for maximum power.

Otherwise it rocks!!!

#28

Hey nice flubby beast

like other said u could make action more intense : just by tending the arm and maybe rotate in order to have the bar just under his head

#29

Weather forcast for the weekend is stonking sunshine…D’OH. That will mean the girlfriend will want ot be off out somewhere rather than letting me sit at home modelling…PRAY FOR RAIN!!!
I agree with you all, I was leaving the shoulders till sort of last as they are a real pain to do. Muscles are blocky as this creature isn’t really all organic. I need some work on the lower jaw, then add a collar around the neck to a) act a a choke (he stops pushing he gets strangled b) to add smaller chains to the bar, looped round the collar, so he can’t drop it. THe carriages also need re-doing. I tested a realtime displacer for Cinema but to be realistic the mesh will need alot more subdividing…on my machine…no can do!

Thanks for the support so far, this is my first challenge and you guys help alot! :applause: It is also my first go at detail in a model (rather than a bump map!)…

#30

Well, latest update: Changed the arms a little, re-did the shoulder area as best…maybe have to create a new arm to make it fit better, urghhhh…

#31

Nice clean wire I like it. Maybe you should add some more detail to the surrounding and the contraption it self. The beast is very nice  .

#32

That harness is great NeilyB! The folds really come out well! This has progressed so well, I’m jealous!

#33

Yeh, need to add some detail to the flor, add the mine tunnel some craggyness tot he wheels and cart. More detail on the harness, a chain from the harness to the bar(stop it falling on the floor when the beast is whacked!)…how many days left…arghhh!

#34

Heres the original sketch, done at work with my favourite art tool…BIC medium…hehehe…

#35

still a bit of work to add detail in a few areas, some work on the lower jaw area…

#36

…and a wire…er…I have removed any scene from the pics as they are not necessary and hide the feet a little…theres no juding on the surounding is there? Still some work to do…

#37

Sweet. I would like to see him with some colors.

#38

Okay, some colours…I’m all out of time and passion…I have seen some strange and fantastic beasts in this challenge and have lost a bit the will to carry on…well, here he is then. Next time I will have learnt…imagination, practise and time is what is needed!

#39

Great work indeed neilyB! :applause:

You’ve done a great job with this beast, and the colours work very well. I hope you enter the next one!

#40

don’t be too disheartened neilyb, your beast is excellent, strong concept and excellent modelling. You obviously have all the skills necessary. Just remember that some of the guys posting here would have to be some of the best modellers in the world, if we can come even close to that then I reckon that’s pretty damn awesome. It’s like the olympics in here, we made it to the first round but it will take a lot more practice to get the gold. But we’ll make it if we really want to.

Cheers.

I love your model and have enjoyed watching it develope, so thanks for the effort.
