Banner upload / test with flash banner

#1

I was experimenting with the portfolio banner…

i have tried some different file formats. JPG, GIF, etc... they all work fine.
Then i had the idea to upload a FLASH BANNER (macromedia *.swf file format).

At first i used a old swf movie i found on my HD. After the upload my old banner was deleted and an error said my image has not the right proportions (900x165).

I made a new one as test (with correct file size) the result was impressive... my banner was completly removed ?!

I think there is currently no limitation about what kind of file you can upload (*.txt, *.png, *.etc ;) ) because the upload request window shows "all files"

Is this maybe an option to upload a file that can harm cgsociety ??!(virus-code etc…) Please check this

I will now upload a new *.gif banner but i would like to have the option to upload a flash banner, u can to a lot more with less file size (like *gif)… how about this?!

Whilst you can upload any file, it will only accept jpgs gifs, and pngs (other files will get deleted)

Whilst flash files would be nice, there are just far too many exploits you can tack into a flash file to make it safe for us to allow random users to upload flash files :frowning:

I’ve having zero luck uploading a banner - JPG or GIF, 165 or 164 wide, no matter how I hold my mouth :o) Is there some special incantation? Or am I too stupid to use banners? (Please be kind.)

The banner needs to be 900 wide

when you upload it does it show an error message? can you post the banner here so I can look at it?

I’ve attached the banner – please excuse my confusion (I keep looking for a white rabbit with a pocket watch). This is all somewhat surreal in that I am never quite sure whether I’m making errors or have encountered a bug. I like to think the latter, but the formor is most likely generally the case :o)

Thanks.

Pitty we can´t use flash movies, I´ve used them on my website to show before and after composites, and everyone seems to like it. It could be a nice feature to add to the portfolio in the future, in both the images and banners (if the bugs in flash are ever solved).

They’re unfortunatly not bugs, they’re part of the design. Much like we don’t allow people to insert their own HTML or Javascript, there’s the potential to do too much damage.
