Baking an ncloth sim

#1

Hi guys,

Trying to bake down a ncloth sim but haven’t had any luck. Edit> keys> bake simulation doesn’t seem to work. As soon as I delete the ncloth and nucleus nodes from the scene the animation is lost.

Is there a way to bake the cloth sim onto the geometry in maya? This is on maya 2013 if it makes a difference.

you will either need to do an nCache or a geometry cache.

bake simulation only does the transform which is not used in the basic nCloth sim.

Only problem with the two caching methods is dealing with the path if you need to change computer so you need to make sure its is a spot that can be gotten to.

Or do a Geometry Cache which is essentially the same thing. Or Alembic.

I am sure there was a script around a few years ago that baked geo into blendshapes that then had no need for a cache… do a search for it.

thanks! I will look into that.

i had success to do it. You have not just to click on bake simulation but before you have to enter in the preference of the baking and select “control points”. It runs.

So i ask you that. it is possible to export a baked ncloth ( for example a animated baked garment ) i connected a skeleton with a bind skin to ? My objective is to create a only animation of turbolence of the dress i can use for each character i want in my scene. I know i can do it in Maya without problems but when i go to export it in fbx the problem comes. When i reopen the fbx the baked garments has all its movements but it lost the bind skin. I really want to solve it.
Thank you in advance.
