Here’s a new idea, i’ll stick with this one as i think it gets over the idea without showing too much.
B-Movie Entry: Steve Bateman
Done the eye now, just need to paint a proper map for the environment reflection. The jpg compression kills it a bit but it think it looks suitably yucky for a b-movie.

Thanks i’m just exploring the zbrush material system and rendering too. For the life of me i can’t figure out the light placement and control, but that’s just inexperience on my part as i’ve seen some awesome renders come out of zbrush.
Just started to work out a rough comp, still getting used to positioning objects in 2.5D.
Got a lot of mushrooms to model now.
aaahhh, I was wondering how you would put it all together. Love this comp! Love the grossness of the eye
Ohh - that eye looks really good. Creepy and good, I like that.
The comp could work and if you can give it some more depth, even better.
I’m with you regarding the lighting in ZBrush - I can’t figure it out either. Sometimes it seems overly sensitive to adjustments and sometimes it wont update at all… could be a memory thing I suppose.
I really enjoy following what you’re doing here, nice work!
aimanimation Glad you like it, things will change radically for the final but will retain the same feel.
gunilla Thanks gunny, it looks flat because i just drew things out on a flat plane, now i’ve sorted out how to set pivots ill use a dummy mesh with depth to add the tools too. I totaly agree more depth.
I’m glad it’s not just me with the whole lighting thing, but i’m slowly getting used to the quirks.
I’m going to start building this image from the ground up now. Here’s the start of the background layer
That looks great! It’s like a birds eye view of a lucious forest… If you want to make it look more unearlthy you could try putting a little more cyan into your greens.
Keep it coming!
Made my first render, nearly done on the background, i can see a few places where things need to be adjusted. next up shrooms
AJ Thanks i’ll work on the color balance in the final comp, but will for sure test out your suggestion.
Looks really amazing! -it came from the depths of unknown…a 50 foot. down under…
naked eye close to sharp rocks is really good idea, it gives a dramatic feeling…very contrasty…love the moss and it is good you left some uncovered parts to see some sharp rocks -(bottom right and close to eye),
impressive work.
best luck!
