B-Movie Entry: Steve Bateman

#64

Wow, Steve! It is equal parts creepy and amazing. That is fantastic

Here’s a few shots at full resolution

Freelah Thanks glad you like it.

tccin 3d Thanks your post made me realy happy. It was an experiment in surface textures for me, hard against soft etc aswell as color contrasts. I was going to add eyelids on the final but i also like the contrast of pure geometry against noise so i’ll leave it as is.

varma Thanks, i enjoy texturing and am loving zbrush 2.5d painting. Never realy attempted it before and has bee a real eye opener for me, pardon the pun.

Gunilla Hey Gunny, yeh, zbrush will be my main app from now on. I’m bored to death of traditional poly modeling, so this challenge has re-kindled my enthusiasm, zbrush is just so artist friendly, especialy if you come from a traditional painting background.

Ferx Thanks for your support, it’s realy helped me on my way.

mdavid Glad you like it Mark, i feel some shackles have fallen off with this challenge and am having a flood of ideas of what i want to do next. Something i haven’t experienced in quit a while

Wow great details. You know if you ever made this into a wallpaper, I would like one please.

It’ll will be so creepy when you turn on your monitor and this creature is looking straight at you.

Software: ZBrush

Fungi spores infect the population, what happens next is left to the viewers imagination.

#69

WOW

You are a master of the Organic! Very nice work!

That eye is very distinctive. Will there be more in the image to link it to the attack on humanity? Just a thought- maybe a psuedo/or hint of eyelid- something to bridge that connection? (maybe i’m just one of those that overstates the obvious  )

#70

The rendering of the moss is awsome, very realisic
but I think the eye need a bit more item around it (in my personnal opigion)
hurry up

#71

Yes, I think FeD put it better than I did!

FeD

Thanks for your feedback, any feedback is good in my eyes as it means there was a responce to the image.
To me it’s more about mood, surreal more than literal. I did try your suggestion but it started closing ends that i wanted to keep open. I’m a firm believer in its what you leave out that is important.
One of my favorite artists is Donald Roller Wilson, he will add odd objects floating about in his paintings such as olives and cigarette ends. They have no reason to be there other than they might be blown across the scene by a strong gust of wind. It’s this kind of thinking that interests me.

#73

So, you’ve finished - and with some time left too, congrats!
It really came together fantastic - both beautiful and creepy at the same time. It’s been a pleasure to follow you in it’s creation.

Hey Steve,

Wow! This is super creepy! and truly Amazing!

I love your concept, and you’ve really brought it a long way while keeping to your original premise

Can’t wait to see how this one turns out!
Cheers!

#75

Handlebar, congrats on finishing. I’m amazed how you came up with all this moss from zbrush. You should post a tutorial on zbrushcentral on how you did it; I think you might get top shelf!

#76

It looks amazing. Congratulations Steve. That is a powerful image - very eye-catching (pun not intended) and expertly done too. The organic features and surfaces are astonishing. I can easily imagine it making a film poster that would draw a lot of interest, which of course is what you set out to do! Bravo!

#77

Wowa, that’s super amazing, congratz!
It has the certain look of a superreal photography, all those insane details and elaboration!
The texture work is simply great!
Hope to see more of your works!
GOod luck!

#78

Hey Steve,

Fantastic image. I simply love the beautiful, elegant and disturbing feel of this image  Really great textures and lighting on the image.

Congratulations for this superb concept !! Good luck and cheers!!

Nice!
Beautiful mossy rock environment you’ve created here. I’m not quite sure where the 2.5d is in your final image but it’s always nice to see what folks are doing in ZBrush using 2.5d painting. It inspires me to want to explore it more myself, since I’ve only played around with it briefly a couple of times in the past. I’d like to see more details on the 2.5D aspect.

Great job!

#80

Lovely organic elements, looks really nice!! That eyeball looks hideous, great stuff  Very cool final entry piece!

#81

Bwahahahaah!.. Classic!

#82

What ? You render this with ZB ?!
I really would like to see the process !
Maybe when you have time you can share a cool tutorial about the plant creation, the way of planting them, the shader settings, etc.
I am quiet impressed !
Great job Steve !
