Latest Update: Work In Progress: Base Mesh

Hey guys

This is my first entry to a CG society comp so I think I need to wait a while before I can post my concept images.

I have decided that I want to focus on the 1950s B movies that used real insects such as Beginning of the End where grasshoppers were the size of cars. I thought it would be funny to have a snail dangling over a city with some obviously fake wings glued to the shell. I felt the snail could be treated as though it was a flying saucer with army tanks lined up ready to shoot.

I’ll post my concept as soon as I can

Software: Photoshop

Hey heres my quick concept image. I’m not sure if i should make it look like 1950s black and white or if i should add colour.

if you going for a b movie poster sorta look then i say add color.

I’ve created my base mesh in Maya ready to be taken into ZBrush. It’ll be my first time using ZBrush so fingers crossed and lots of messing around first!

@Neoten - Yeah I think doing it in colour might be the best idea. I can always Photoshop it into black and white and see which one looks better.

Really nice clean modelling, well done! I’m doing snails too - in the video category! The shell was trickier than I thought it would be…

Best of luck

Yeah the shell took several different attempts to get the mesh to cleanly wrap around, took longer than I expected but at least I’ll know for the future.

I took a nose at your video posts, the snail shell looks great. The idea sounds cool so I’ll be keeping an eye out for the final piece!
