B-Movie Entry: Semih Yaman

#81

Some more progress on skinning, hair and overall character design.

#82

hehe, sweet - much better! Must be a bunch of work to do the rigging for all the characters. Nice pose btw - more Ninja like and a bit funny, matching the style.
Blond or not blond - both look very nice IMO.

#83

I like this pose more. Now, what if you make her look off to her left slightly. It just seems her body is too open for the defense. Just a thought…

It´s really a lot more work to rig all the characters instead of just posing them and correcting the deformations, but this way I will have the freedom to change poses quickly once I see they don´t work in the composition. :bounce:

Giom >
That´s true, the pose is too open and probably it also takes too much space in the composition. For now it´s just an improvement compared to the first pose and I will slowly get closer to the final pose just by testing and comparing. There are so many possibilities…

#85

A first version of Jacks clothing. The final dress will probably be a mix of Evel Knievel, Elvis and pilot dress elements. The right arm will be removed and replaced by a retro looking robot arm.

#86

Very well done, Semih! Like the hippie style ‘pajama’. Some heavy golden necklaces could underline the Elvis feel. Hands are rather off (especially thumbs are too far up), but i’m sure everything is under control and maybe the left hand not visible anyway. The head is superb!

Hey Semih,

Cool outfit for Jack, totally on Elvis style  Jack is the king !! hahahaha  Nice model for sure, cool work!

#88

Zoltan >
Thanks! The heavy golden necklace idea is great! Hands need refinement… and I wish I had everything under control!   There´s still sooo much stuff to do!!! :argh:

Fernando >
Thanks! Haha… he´s the king of robot arm Elvis impersonators!

#89

I wasnt really satisfied with the previous compositions, as they didn´t bring across what I had in mind. So I spend many many hours, rearranging all the elements and trying to purify the layout.

#90

Hey Semih,

Nice changes to the poster, like the idea of the space zombie ninjas jumping to the heroes

Waiting for more updates  Cheers!!

#91

Finally, a first version of the robot arm. Probably I will have to add some tubes and cables to give it more of a techy look. Most important is to make it look massive and a lot stronger than his human arm would be, so his weakness has become his strenght

#92

Thanks my friend! The jumping adds some more action, also one expects Ninjas to do something dynamic like flying through the air or doing somersaults!

#93

Like the new layout as well. But to be honest, can’t see the reason for some of the changes.

Before it was clear: your humans came by car to fight the aliens. Now it looks more like they were beamed down from the spaceship above to fight the viewer. They aren’t surrounded by aliens anymore, and the green light might appear as a beamlight. Of course it’s a kind of stupid interpretation - trying just to say that the message isn’t 100% clear now. I would recommend to have some aliens somewhere, obviously attacking the heroes - so also the searchlight couldn’t be misunderstood. However, too much creativity now could be contra-productive regarding the deadline.

Not so sure about the new render size - it isn’t poster format actually. Perhaps the regular A0 proportions would match the theme better, or evtl a wide format (3xA0 = ca 2:1).(maybe the latter not so good for a B-movie)

Regards

Haha… Zoltan my friend, you see everything !!

To me, the new composition has more of a poster look, compared to the versions before, that also worked as posters, but perhaps looked more like a scene from the movie. I think designing a poster is more about arranging elements in a way that works graphically, opposed to creating a picture that completely makes sense. The ufo beam is simply an element that adds mystery, why this beam is there and what it does is not so important, as long as it works from a compositional point of view.

You mentioned the message not beeing clear... the message is, Space Zombie Ninjas attack the Earth that is defended by our heroes... thats all. Also as I said before, Ninjas are supposed to fly, do somersaults and high kicks and this way the ufos and the heros are also connected in the layout by the attacking SZN. ;)

I´m glad you liked the versions before, but sure hope you also like the new layout graphically. It´s supposed to communicate more of a feeling than beeing a completely logic picture, like most of the posters do. I also tend to think tooooo much when I create stuff, this time I´m trying to simply do something that looks cool and fun and feeds the eye.

Thanks again for all your support, your comments are always very helpful and it´s cool to see how you interpret and think about the stuff!! This is all to say, I´m very happy with the new layout and it took a lot of work, but it´s still possible that I do more something like before, there´s no layout so far that completely looks wrong to me.

It would really be interesting to have some more feedback! What do you guys think?? Comments are welcomed!!

Some more progress on Jack.

#96

Made a bulldog out of the base mesh I posted before and started sculpting.

#97

Wow, your dog did change a lot - very nice modeling. Maybe the eyes area could be moved forward and down slightly. Here a nice shot of a bulldog, looking forward to bite aliens: alien hunting dog

#98

Some more modeling and a first version of fur.

#99

Thanks for the awesome reference! As you can see it found good use!! I also improved the eye area and the legs.

Hey Semih,

Cool updates!! I see, Jack Norisk is a mix between elvis and Evel Knievel, cool!! The Jack´s robotarm looks nice, perhaps a bit “clean”, you maybe can add some scratches and dust
The dog looks great, like the goggles detail, put a nice personality touch.

WAiting for more updates!! Cheers!
