Ferx, That is an awesome idea! I was planning on adding some electricity to the balls in the dome on the robot’s head, but the sparking cables is a way better idea- it would integrate into the scene way better!
Thanks!

Thanks Blarq,

I appreciate that- I will definately try to get as much smoothing up as i can on this. I am very pleased with the idea- and it is progressing well. I am still an amateur in rendering and lighting can suck up alot of time- so I hope i have enough time to play with it!

very awesome!!

Almost finished painting/texturing. Will add some detailing to the bridge to suggest damage. Addition of spotlights into the background and smoke. Adding more depth and richness to the backdrop with that.

I still need to work on some more effects with the robot- smoke out the front vent and ear pieces. Also sparks from the cable in the mouth, as suggested!

I am still toying with the idea of putting a couple in the foreground- silhouetted- so no heavy texturing or detailing. I hopefully should have enough time for that- before the final render!

Almost there. Some changes in the background- got rid of the black smoke- too bold. Have been playing with dirty smoke pouring out the front grill. Using particle systems isn’t giving me the control i want- but the effect seemed to be covering or distracting from the robots details. The subtler smoke shown now is seeming to be the way to go.

Just some modelling detailon the bridge- add damage to it. then play with rendering- and other fixes as i notice them(or someone points them out!)

Almost there. Replaced the lighting on the Robot. Switched from spot to directional- better shadows, and more dynamic. Details added to the bridge plus a few changes to the background. Foreground needs work yet- still playing with it. Otherwise more polish! I may try a mental ray rendering- time permitting- see if it helps. Also some photoshop work after- but not too much.

Also added a green tinit to the robots face- make him look a little ill!

I have tried to keep it simple- but still find myself getting sucked into details- or wasting time on lighting between fixing textures… (something that plagues all of us at some point?)
I have been keeping mental notes on this- and the overall production flow- things to learn from!

I am 95% there! Just a few more details!

I am still wanting to add two embracing figures to the foreground. I’ll have to make them separate and composite them in photoshop. I just want minimal detail. Basically silhouettes in the foreground- just a wee bit of depth to them- and simple- from the back. No time for big details. Try to make it look like a very dramatic, yet telling scene from the movie. i decided early not to make a movie poster, but now am definitively wanting to make this look like a film still. I guess many more hours in photoshop getting it right!

Having issues getting two figures to work in the space. Maybe i’ll switch to an indifferent looking cat- would solve the problems of caricaturing correctly to match the feel of the robot. Also would be a good parody of the whole scene. The mayhem vs the indifference!

The city eating monster, defeated by the city? Maybe the subway was past its due date? All that mayhem has its consequences!

Final image- The contest was a lot of fun- and an excuse to learn!

Software: 3ds max,Photoshop

A robot that ate a little too much? Or was the Subway bad?

Thank you all for your comments. I was in a rush to finish as i had to leave town before the deadline. So… I feel like i short changed myself. But on the up side, i learned alot from this competition. Also it got me more involved in the forum, and posting. Hopefully i can carry this on and start well onto getting into the CGI scene!
