SideAche: Thanks, hopfully it won’t fall apart when I complete the colors.

elmasfeo: Thanks for your ideas. I agree, it’s looking quite dark at the moment. I’m hoping to make it easier on the eyes once I add some ominous foreground lighting. I had thought of adding some fog too and will probably apply it to the wings and head during the final stages.

#22

Rock on.

Still gotta add another 1 or 2 sailors.

#23

Still playing around with the lighting and add some highlights from the lighting. Also gotta make the boat pop a bit more.

#24

Almost done. still gotta balance some highlights out and play around with the colors. Also I keep forgetting to add suction cup things for the tentacles.

#25

This is looking really good man. Love the idea. Really nice play of values, composition and textures. Good work and good luck.

#26

Loves It…

#27

I think I’m done. I’ll let it simmer for a little while and come back to it. Perhaps I’ll spot something just before I upload the final image.

H.P lovecraft would be turning in his grave, nice artwork

"The Great Elder God Cthulhu has awoken once again - and boy is he confused. Not only has the world changed in many curious ways since his slumber, but the people have forgotten his music - the sound of his soul. To make matters worse, the descendants of his once legions of fans are now mindless cultists who worship him for all the wrong reasons. And they care nothing for his tunes.

Well, it’s time to change all that.

Rising from his sunken concert stage in R’lyeh, he brushes the dust off his guitar and prepares for a gig the likes of which the world has never seen…at least not since the last time he was around.

It’s time to rock the world and shred his axe - incredibly old, old, super old school style."

I’ve always had a mental image of some gargantuan creature shredding a guitar. And H.P Lovecraft’s creation Cthulhu seemed to fit that bill more and more over time. So when this CG challenge appeared it intrigued me enough to create an image based on a long standing idea.

This is my first CG Society challenge and it’s been a great learning experience. I love b grade movies and I hope my love of it shines through in my image.

I hope you’ve enjoyed the process of creation and the end result.

Note: When I think of Cthulhu shredding his axe I always imagined him playing this song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYuG-UA858k (mostly from 4:19 onwards). Cthulhu Rocktagn!
