I like 22 and 24 - (killer sketches!)

#82

wow, I love the final layout. Dinosaur thinking he has a meal, the two thinking of dessert. this is gonna be awesome. best of luck.

#83

I think you’ve nailed it mike, the quality of the line work is exceptional. Well done

It’s looking really great! Can’t wait for the colours, but i’m kinda partial to layout #22 with the girl posing as in #21, it would be kind funny if she was yelling back at the dinosaur, anywho love the sketchwork :buttrock:

Hi Michael,

You figure drawings are impressive and very inspiring. I like your concept, it is original and entertaining as always. You have such insightful comments to make and all I have to offer is a delirious though that the vampire women were in female Gumby character claymation style and the dead dinosaur was replaced by Gumby's horse Pokey laying drained on the ground with Xs for eyes. Gumby comes across the scene and is horrified. This is not a suggestion, just shared daydreams , your work is too wonderful to mess with. Can't wait to see you kick into render mode!

#86

Thanks for the comments, folks! I’ve finally finished my other contest so I can devote more time to this now. Here are some variations on the main Vampizon’s face. Plus you can see I’ve made a lot of subtle adjustments to her body and especially her arms and hands (my wife posed for me.) Any thoughts on the subtle differences between facial poses?

#87

Hey Mike,

Cool studies  Like the sketch #2. We can see the fangs, and the expression is great. Perhaps the jaw articulation and position needs to look more open, the curve line puts a bit “squash” look than a stretch. In # 3 looks stretched with the straight line, but maybe the jaw need to be a bit down, The head looks a bit elliptical. Only a comment

Waiting for more updates. Cheers!!

#88

#3 looks like a cats facial expression, not sure if you are after that?
I like #1 the most I think it is the cheek line that looks a bit odd to me in #2 (apart from that I like it), not bad odd, just maybe a bit too defined. I also prefer her left eyebrow in #1.

only my opinion. nice update though

#89

Per your posted facial expressions variations, I vote version one not too happy and not too Neanderthal like. But adding the fangs to version one would make sense.

#90

Nice line art! :applause:
As for me, I like the second expression, but agreed with Ferx - the jaw could be more opened.

#91

Ahaaaa! Got you. Wonderful start, full of the fun you always manage to imbue your imagery with. I know it will be packd with action, character and subtle touches - and be worth studying for ages to spot all those elements.

#92

I like your sketcthes mainly sketch # 1, because the more detail or shadows give, give an appearance of old.
Waiting for more updates :bounce:

#93

Wow, I really like your process, it’s come a long way. I like the insatiable vampire girls, hah. Hope this doesn’t confuse you, but I like the eyes from 1, the lips and mouth from 2 and the jawline from 3.

#94

Between the first and second, because both have something to attract.

#95

great drawings ,are you coming from animation or comic background?

#96

Okay, I’ve finally moved beyond the just-doing-sketches-and-layout phase to actually painting, even if it is just the values. Still certainly a work0in-progress, but at least it’s getting fleshed out.

I’ve only roughed in the hair but plan on doing a lot more with it, especially with the vampizon on the left. There’ll be more evidence of blood around - on their mouths, on the downed Herrerasaur’s neck, pooled on the ground beneath it. And there will be bushes or something between them all and the upright dino. A bit more of a camopy of thick branches and swamp moss hanging from them as well.

Thank you all for the comments so far! I ended up going with face sketch #2, but extended her jaw (thanks, Ferx and Peleng!) and brought in the other eyebrows (thanks, Iskander!) Those of you who were concerned with the strong line from the nose to the sides of the mouth delineating the bottom of the cheek now can at least see where I’m taking that. It still might be a bit strong, but it makes more sense seeing it helping to define the happy-cheek instead of looking in the flat sketch like an age line.

BDBros - Thanks! I do have a background in animation (among other things) and less time in comics… but a lot more in just plain illustration in general.

#97

Michael - Looking good. It also helps explain why I felt so drained after certain dates long ago.

#98

Many hours later: More values being filled in. How 'bout that?

Thanks for the comment, Korendo!

#99

Hey Michael,

Good values and depth are definitely important, and yours are coming along beautifully!

I love how much dedication you put into getting just the write poses and feel for your characters and the mood of the scene; Those are some excellent pre-vis sketches!

Can’t wait to see how this one continues to turn out!
Cheers mate!

Thank you for the comment, Bergquist. Glad you like it!

Here I am after another sporadic day’s worth of work - the dinosaurs - or at least the top one - is more detailed and refined (but still needs more wrinkles.) I’ve also expanded the canvas to give everything more breathing room. And I threw in the red at the last minute to show how it works in the scene.
