hahaha… dinoape, thats so B-Movie
it sure is a funny idea, but than u might have 3 or 4 concepts in one image which is always a bit confusing.
No.2 dino layout works best for me, mostly coz of the t-rex concept and its pose. Maybe turn her away from the t-rex, so she is still portrayed as a hero and a dino slayer, while others noticed the t-rex behind them and r acting scared or something… aware of the danger. Just my 2 cents
B-Movie Entry: Michael Dashow
Your sketches are amazing! the vampire girl is looking pretty hot too, i’m going to have to keep an eye on this thread
hey walrus !
Are you a dino-maniac ? Lovely sketches !=)
I like the idea of a big dino coming from behind, maybe a lot bigger than the one on the bottom ?
The dinoape looks like a nice bmovie monster/hero too.
Good luck
Thanks for the comments, folks! sorry I haven’t been my usual good self about commenting on others threads much yet. I’ve been running (and participating in) a series of sprite animation mini-challenges over on GameArtisans.org and I have to finish up one in progress before I can devote 100% of my free time to this.
anyhow, here are a couple new layouts. In #12 I know the guy gets lost against the T-Rex, but I think I can pull that out with hue and value, perhaps. And of course I didn’t sketch in any foliage or covering trees the way I hinted at in #13. #12 represents where I think I need to go with her costume more: As Blaz noted, I could easily get too busy with too many different ideas. So rather than having cavewomen and vampires and astronauts and dinosaurs and leave the viewer wondering how the woman and man tie together, making her a spacewoman (albeit a navel-revealing-costumed one) will tie her together to the man, wherever he ends up being placed or posed. Thoughts?
wow, all of your sketches are so goood and the elve-prehistoric-vampire girl is just so cool…
the composition of the dino layout 12 works really well I think.
hope you’ll be able to finish your sprite animation challenges and find the time to do something really cool for this challenge!!
Great concept! I also prefer the layout 12, it seems to be more dynamic than the others
Hey Michael,
Cool updates! Great sketch on dino ape, really love that idea.
Agree that many diffrent type of characters can make busy the concept.
Like your new layouts, the girl on layout 12 has a cool and dynamic pose. Looking on that layouts and having in mind the busy issue, I think you can go for a confrontation style image: “Vampire cave women vs spacemen dino riders”
You maybe can use de T-Rex dino riding by a sort of space man or a group of dino riders, chasing a group of cave women vampires that just kill a dino. (you can use a lot of different types of creatures… maybe can be the “spacemen mutant-dino-riders” :D) Only silly thoughts , don’t listen to me.
Great work like always. Waiting for more updates. Cheers!!
Thanks for the comments, folks! I’m glad everyone seems to like one more than the otehr - makes things easier for me!
But I still should fool around with it a bit more - I am concerned about that astronaut guy getting lost against the T-Rex.
Speaking of T-Rexes, I’ve been watching a great Gnomon DVD this week, “Drawing Dinosaurs: Anatomy and Sketching,” with David Krentz. He’s really good - I mean, both a great artist and sculptor, but also really good at explaining the important points - and I’m learning a lot that I hope to apply to this painting. The last time I did dinosaurs for a CGTalk Challenge - 5 years ago or so? - it was a real bomb, so I’m hoping to do better this time around. ![]()
yea i think 12 has the tighter composition keeps the eye engaged with minimal of eye travel , 13 has a lot of room to work with. possibly a good chance for a fancy background. you have an amazingly consistent design process.
marley
Here’s a revision on the last layout with a stronger silhouette for the man, which I’m happier about. I also really like the eye-line between the woman and the T-Rex. Now to get to work refining it and fix all the terrible anatomy and such!
Great sketches! I really love the UFOs in the background. Everything really does scream “B-movie”. God I actually want to watch this movie now.
I love your sketches and I’m sure the final product will be great like all your previous pieces.
Thanks for the notes, folks. Glad you like it. I’ve fleshed out the characters a bit more…
but now I’m abandoning this layout. I stumbled upon another entry that had pretty much the exact same theme as this: Male and female astronauts pursued by a giant T-Rex. And although neither of us copied the idea from the other, it’s not going to help either of us to have such an unoriginal idea. (This challenge theme does tend to lend itself to cliches and people treading some of the same ground.) So it’s time for me to ditch the astronaut space theme and get back to the core idea of Vampires and long-necked dinosaur and really push that part of the concept. I’ll keep the dead dino on the ground, band move the female vampire closer to him to really pull out the fact that she’s bitten him, and not distract her with anything else. The male astronaut will be replaced, most likely, by another amazon vampire woman. I think a greater emphasis on the vampiric nature of the main character will help make the piece more original and has the potential to be more funny. Sketches soon…
Hi Michael, how are you doing??Good luck with your Vampire comp, cant’ wait to see your first sketches!
I think Im gonna join the challenge soon, still wondering what kind of idea im gonna use for this one, wish me luck!!
ok,take care and good luck again!!
Hey Walrus, I found your comment on my thread, and as you said, of course you didn’t get the idea from me and I didn’t got the idea from me
I posted a comment on your female vampire with a ray gun but I didn’t imagine that our concepts would be that close am really amazed to see that both of us have male and female astronauts, Trex and vampires on our threads !! :surprised: :banghead:
Thanks for your comments on color scheme and best of luck for you ![]()
Okay, so off in a slightly new direction, perhaps. no more spacesuits, instead making it more clear that the woman are vampires by pulling the camera in to really focus on the main amazon-cavewoman-vampire and her prey.
The one on the back is pointing, like “Check out the yummy necks on those Brachiosauruses over there!”
A shame you abandoned your earlier concept. I really liked the action in it. But what do I know? Good luck with this new concept
#3 and 4 are nice. dino layout 14 is even nicer…but for the story sake # 3 and 4 are definitively better.
