Cool i can imaging a recording of a bear scream being used for this monster, or a lions roar. Very much looking like a B-Movie Monster, Mark. I can visualize people standing in front of screen projection of this beast.
Ace work

Thanks buddy. I’m glad you like it so far. Still a lot to do, but at least I’ve found a decent chunk of spare time this weekend
LightSovereign
I sometimes wondered how they got those recorded roars. I think you’ve hit on some answers
A chance at last to put the lizard into the scene with the rocket ship.
I didn’t like how the low camera angle was hiding most of the lizard’s horns so I tilted its head to one side, which I also think is a bit more interesting than a rigid symmetrical pose.
The space suits worn by the astronauts will be simple metal suits similar to robots - partly because I think they will have a certain B-Movie appeal and partly because I’m racing against time
Hey Mark,
That monster is an awesome menace
Love it!! The model is full of life.
The astronauts on your production will have a really hard time with that fantastic horned lizard
(Looks that he can ate the ship with a single bite :D)
Great work like always. Cheers!!
…something like, ‘eeeeaaaaarrrrgggghhhhhhhhh’…
Maybe his stomache aches, poor beast! I sound something similar when I consume Chili!
Gosh, looks like I missed a couple updates, sorry, I’m hardly allowed to touch the PC in the weekends, but scine I’m laying behind in this project…
I could only “try” to imagine the amount of work you put behind UVmapping and texturing the Lizzard, looks fabulous, and the scene is coming together really nice!
I’m looking forward to see the spacesuits now, I’m sure you have some fun design in mind!
Good luck!

Hey Mark,
really cool updates. I totally like the pose of the lizard in the last update. Looks interested in these tiny metal ants with only two legs. ![]()
The horns look great too.
Torsten
Great work on the lizard monster Mark, it really does have that authentic b-movie feel to it, where that glued horns onto real lizards and made them fight each other. Classic.
Yeah, I agree with the rest - the horns looks great. The position of it could work great, and by placing it like that you could solve the scaling issue as with him being really close to the camera and/or some greensceen shot where he has a totally different lighting then the rest of the scene… just some thoughts.
Nice going, and as I notice we’re running short of time I better stop typing and get to work
Ferx
Hey thanks buddy. Still so much to do, and the clock is ticking
Thankfully I have some time at last so I will see if I can finish this thing before the deadline
varma
Thank you! Actually the work on unwrapping the UVs was not so bad. I used the pelt unwrapping feature of Cinema. It was the first time I’ve tried out that feature and for sure, it saved me a lot of effort
Russel-Nash
Thanks Torsten. I’m glad you like the horns. I had to twist the lizard’s head around quite a lot for us to be able to see both horns from that low camera angle, but I think it still looks believable. I’ll be putting people around it now and that will enhance the sense of scale
handlebar
Thanks Steve. Yeah, the irony is that, in order to make the monster look fake I had to use realism! That way it becomes totally obvious that the horns are glued on to a standard lizard. Oh yeah, and I was also wanting an excuse to do some organic modelling again
Gunilla
Thanks Gunilla! So little time. So much B-Movie to do. Thankfully I have an opportunity now to make some progress
At last, I have a bit of time. I don’t know if I’ll make deadline but at least I can give it a try. I’ll now be populating the scene with some astronauts.
The placement of the astronauts will be partly chosen to emphasise the huge size of the monster. And of course I’ll be thinking about making the composition look nice too.
The space suit design was based on a few things:
1 - it had to look partly believable, partly 1960s futuristic, and at the same time, somehow stupid (lace-up boots, TV arial and exposed arms painted white)
2 - the helmet and visor save me from the time-consuming process of modelling lots of realistic people!
3 - It had to be easy to pose, because I want some of the poses to be quite dramatic
A few astronauts face the monster, or run away from it.
I want to create some of the landscape next: some hills in the background, and the lizard will probably be coming out of a cave
Here’s an early render of the scene. I’ve still got to finish posing the astronauts. For example, all their hands are in the same pose
Great progress Mark, it’s realy starting to come together, very clost to your sketch. Awesome.
nice update :bounce: and yup you need to finish the hands pose they Look strange
waiting for more
Hey Mark
Totally cool update
Love that spacesuit for the astronauts, authentic B-Movie stuff, great!! ![]()
The perspective and point of view of the scene have a really cool composition. Like a lot the turn head and the expression for the horned monster
and the action and póses for the astronauts. Perhaps the astronaut that down the ladder can be looking to the monster, he is a bit out of the action on the scene, only a comment
Awesome work and waiting for more
Cheers!!
Both practical and very smart suit design, especially the antenna, hehe, priceless!
Poses are very good, mostly the Liz’s expression, and yeah, the one running!
Looking forward to see the rest of the movie!
Good luck, mate!

Haha! Yeah - the antennas - nice touch!
This is coming along really nice now! The setup for the scene works well - looks really staged which is good in this case. I think you’re gonna make it in time too - great!
Mark, this is looking awesome, i can see this lizard with its lightning fast tongue causing all sortz of problems…this competition really suits your sense of humour so hopefully you do finish up on time.
wishing you a speedy finish!

Thanks Steve. Most of the time I don’t stick too closely to my rough sketches, but this time I had to save some time
thebest
Cheers Tony. I’ve done another couple of hands now. Still have more to do. But I will get around to doing them. Really.
Ferx
Thanks Fernando. You make an excellent suggestion, to have the guy up the ladder looking around to see all the commotion. I didn’t do that originally because the spacesuit design would not be so flexible, but I think it would look better if I do something there so I will work on that.
miketche
I’m glad you like the antennas. As a cartoonist I always drew that type when I had a TV in my drawings. There’s something appealing about them. So now, one of those antennas is taking on a key role in this film
varma
Thanks Mathias. I’m still tweaking all of those poses because I am never satisfied. But I guess they are getting close to done now
Gunilla
Hey Gunilla, thank you. Yep, I think I should finish this one. I won’t be doing anything too ambitious like I have in the past, but at least I should have something done
LightSovereign
Hey Marley, thank you buddy. I think I should be able to finish this one now. Thankfully I’ve got some time to play with 3D after getting through a pretty busy few months.
