great composition, makes me wish to have knowledge of 3d because playing around with the composition looks like great fun…

Great start mate, lots of action in the scene and the camera position is a quite interesting! Kind of
progressive angle and very dynamic! This is definitely a strong start, I’m anxious to see the meshes!
Good luck and have fun!

I couldn’t make it this time, some other projects got in the way, but I will definitely keep an eye on
this thread, it’s been a long time!
I find it interesting when people work out the camera angles and comps before much modeling is done. I’ve never really felt comfortable with that. I have a basic idea in my head, but I only work those out after all modeling and texture are completed.
Hey Mark !!
A pleasure to see you again in another challenge buddy! And with another great concept like always.
Like the design of the rocket and space suites, totally 50’s and 60’s “B- Movies” style, cool!
All the best my friend and hope you have enough time to see finished this concept. Looking forward for more updates! Cheers
Hey Mark! Sure you are in, no surprise at all
Lizard is classy B monster. It may be nice to just use photo of it just like the background projection. You know, very B movie like. But I am expecting a lot of fun from here anyway. good luck!
Mark,
Nicely detailed thought process / mission statement. Now I want some hapless astronaut / spelunker with a cheap spear to get eaten by an iguana.
You’ve nailed the essence of B-Movie mania.
Good luck, and nice to meet you.
Gunilla
Thank you. I have no idea how the old film makers did it, but I am thinking rear-projection footage of a regular lizard (with horns). So the actors would be acting in front of a big screen facing what would look to us like a giant monster lizard.
LightSovereign
Thanks Marley. Yeah 3D is a lot of fun. There is definitely a learning curve at first but that is not so bad. Always something new to learn too. I am definitely no expert though, partly because I only use it occasionally
varma
Thanks Mathias. Well, if we can’t enjoy your work then I am happy that we get to enjoy your company. It’s really nice to have you around. As for seeing some new meshes, I am really short of time at the moment and so I am struggling to get anything done on this. I will see how I go.

Thanks Michael. I’ll be honest: this is the first time I’ve done a rough comp first. Normally I just start playing and building things and think about camera angles later. But it’s been kind of interesting to plan the comp first. For example, I now know I don’t need to spend forever on the tex for the tail of the lizard monster - we won’t even see it - and since I am really short on time that is helpful

Yep, 50s and 60s are exactly the era I’m working around. I love the optimism and innocence of those films, although in some ways they were a bit too simple and silly in their plots too. But hey, we’re talking about B-Movies here!
JurajMolcak
Hey Juraj, thanks for visiting! You had me giving a great deal of thought to your smart suggestion to simply use the photo of the lizard instead of a modelled one. You are right - that would certainly give it that rear-projection B-Movie look. But a big part of me wants to model a lizard just for the fun of it. But at this stage I don’t know how much time I will have. So who knows? Thank you for an excellent idea.
ravioli_rancher
Hey Cori, thanks for the encouraging words mate! Yeah, you are absolutely right, at least one astronaut has to be eaten before the lizard gets it. How could I miss that?
gpepper
Hey Gilles, yes sorry I am taking my time with this one. There is a crazy amount of stuff going on here. My days start at about 6.00 am and they finish at about midnight, and little or no time for the challenge. But I hope things will ease off in the coming weeks. With a bit of luck I could start making some proper progress then.
There is an expression we sometimes say in Australia, and that is, ‘flat out like a lizard drinking’. Translated, it means very busy.
And that’s me at the moment. I barely have time to even look at the computer at home, and when I do I am usually pretty tired. But hopefully things won’t be so busy for so long.
At least I was able to get a start on something: the rocket ship. This hardly qualifies as a big update since it is such a simple mesh, but I’m kind of pleased with the shape of it. I think it’s got that 1950s rocket ship look about it
I know exactly what you are talking about. I am in the very same situation. Just have a few hours every week to work on this challenge and normally I am very tired, when I do so.
Your spaceship looks great. Just way I was hoping it will turn out to be. :bounce:
Torsten
Hey Mark
Cool rocket design, like a lot !!
Great 50’s design touch on it.
Hope the lizard stop drinking ( Translate = hope you find time to work on your image hahahahah :D)
Cheers my friend!
Quick work on the rocket Mark! Looking good. Hopefully in a few days things will slow down for you and you will have a little more time for the contest.
The rocket really got that nice 50s look.
I hope you will have time to model the lizzard, this is a cool B-movie monster…
Very nice and stylish rocket! Good to see you started on this now. As for the rear projection of the lizard I think it’s a very cool idea - You could even have the projector partially visible to show just how B this production is
And plenty of time still, so don’t get overly stressed by that.
Russel-Nash
Thanks mate. I’m glad you think the spaceship is on the right track. I found some time this weekend and so it was nice to just sit down and play with 3D again. Good luck handling the demands on your time too.
MVDB
Hey Michael, thank you very much for your encouragement
thebest
Thanks mate! It’s always great to have you in these challenges too
Ferx
Cheers buddy. Yep, I hope the lizard stops drinking too. The next few months could be a bit crazy but there is usually the odd, quiet moment allowing me to play with stuff like this.
miketche
Thank you. I think if the rocket was done right it would wobble a bit as the actors climbed down the ladder.
soapy
Thanks buddy. Although there is not a lot to that mesh so I can’t pretend I really got a lot done.
Xion-Cajou
Thank you very much. The lizard should be fun so I will do that next
Gunilla
Cheers buddy. I like your idea of the rear projection setup slightly showing. That is funny stuff. Either that or some fake-looking rocky ridge in the foreground to show that the film makers are hiding the bottom of the rear-projection screen. Yep. There might be something in that
I found some time this weekend to work on the rocket ship. It seems like you’re all very familiar with the look I’m aiming for. Even though it won’t be very close to the camera I want it to look big, colourful and impractical. I mean, no one in their right mind would land those sharp fins onto a soft, dusty surface. It would sink in so deep they’d be digging it out for the whole rest of the movie.
“whistle, whistle!” Thoooose curves!
Very nice ship design, as usual! I can never stop being amazed by your simplicity in forms and shapes, and still deliver the concept, with lots of expression and fun!
Thanks by the way for your nice words, my pleasure to accompany you guys, I learn a lot in the process as well!
Looking forward to see the characters real soon!
Good luck!
