What a nice toy Kris! I love it!

GregStrangis,
as you wish my friend

aradarena, Odhran, HeadSmell, Paperboy, medunecer, webhead,
thank you so very much!

Bergquist,
yeah, I’m still trying to figure the title out. Not sure about it or it’s placement.
Thank you so much!

Intervain,
thanks x2 Mag! I agree. I might switch colors of his hat. Those are too dark and are not contrasting well.

Keridan,
thanks for stopping by, my friend! I hope you enjoy the progress as much as I’m enjoying building these characters!

KIDI,
ohhhh MachineFlesh, good and bad memories it brings… hahaha! Thanks!

akacg,
yep, Modo is really good and very easy to setup. Still confused about the materials part but I’ll get there. Thanks!

Quadart,
thanks a lot man. No, I don’t know the TV series but now I’m curious to watch it! But his name is more likely to be changed to Bonobo Rogers or Bonobo Gordon at this point

Vimmy,
yeah! I love that raygun toy too

Very nice update, she is pretty. Her face and expression are working.
I guess your references here are Nicole Kidman, Sinead O’ Connor:D and Megalex.
Megalex might be a good inspiration for your character : http://www.humano.com/v3/prod_pic/megalex_1.jpg
Keep it up.

#324

Love the sweetheart updates Kris her eyes are particularly beautiful love her anatomy too!! I’m interested on your change to modo so far into a challenge? was this a rendering speed thing or efficiency setting up many characters??

Dan

#325

This entry makes me feel so motivated! so inspired! every update is a joy to the eyes!, and thank you so much for that! damn she looks hot!! even without hair she is so beautiful! the face and the pose is wonderful!

#326

wonderfull progress. cant wait to see more, or even better, cant wait to see this finished
the jury will have a really hard choice. but imho its you or vimmy , both entrys are top class so far , keep it up

#327

It just keeps getting better Kris! Just curious what are you going to do to break the spec up like you mentioned. Since a normal map is already plugged into the bump slot, how will you incorporate a finer bump map then, my suggestion would be to use a fine detailed texture convert it into a normal map using nvidia photoshop plugin and then overlay that in your current normal map. It’s a technique we use a lot in the games industry that could help you break the spec up, otherwise, you could just use the fine detailed texture to break the spec map up itself, but that would be more of an unnatural effect.

Looking forward to your tutorial walkthrough in the end Kris. Two thumbs up!

#328

absolutely stunning! she looks so realistic and love the outfit

#329

Hi Kris, I love where you’ve taken this and the new outfit is fantastic! The details are simply amazing as well, eagerly awaiting new updates! :applause:

Hello sir,

Idea/beauty-wise, I’d say this and Vimmy’s got the front seats already.

-Boring part starts-
It’s hard to read your renders, not that they are not good, they are insanely good and hard to understand. I’d like to know your workflow. Do you spend your time on shaders instead of trying passes? You mentioned that you spend time in Photoshop as well, do you mean you also create passes? Because lighting isn’t that bright but highlights are very high, is it some sort of high-value trick? Too much questions, sorry about that, but I don’t get the chance to ask the master of masters very often, I hope you don’t mind. Over years, I spent looking at your works for hours sometimes.

Very, very kind regards.

#331

Absolutely fantastic, everything is perfect, the Et the bonobo father and children, and the woman is very sexy and beautiful, you are really a master man.

congratulations,

#332

heh, the ray gun made me smile … pewpew

#333

ChristopheFauconneau,
nop, none of the above
I’m solely using Gil Elvgren’s pin-up work as the main source of inspiration for her face and expression.
Thanks.

Pteropus,
the reason why is because we have John Knoll working with it at my job and getting some amazing renders out of it  I think it’s not quite as great and optimized as VRay as it seems, but the software is evolving fast and the render quality is already pretty damn good. But the main reason is the easy to setup lighting and shading. It doesn’t have a fastskin shader like mentalray, but you can layer other maps and get some cool results as well. Also, the ability to see a super fast interactive/almost realtime render is a HUGE time saver, including SSS, reflections, normals etc etc etc. Things that took me a ton of render passes in mental ray now are fixed on the fly and this is priceless!

AdanVC,
thank you so much!

kybel,
thanks! In this case I think Vimmy got the edge man. Being a moderator doesn’t help my cause, quite the opposite, believe me. BUT, there are MANY great entries in this challenge. There is always someone who don’t post a lot and then BAM! A great final entry is posted. So, never count anyone out because it’s a great group of artists participating

Kong-in-Chains,
I do have a noisy spec map to help it a little but I can make it more evident by adding a second bump map. Modo allows you to have normal map and bump map so it’s easy to add it. Thanks man!

kojala, Noodlz,
thank you!

trcg,
I normally use a very strong back light to produce that effect. If 1 is the maximum default value for brightness, I sometimes crank it to 3. But it all depends of the proximity of the lighting source, the kind of attenuation you’re using, HDRI map, etc. As for the passes, since I’m new to Modo, I’m trying to get the beauty pass as close as I can to the ideal render and then I go from there, spitting the necessary passes for post. I know some people don’t worry too much about it and “fix in comp” but I’m a little maniac about getting things looking good before I add all that fancy overused-new-lens-flare called “chromatic aberration”. I added some to my images but man, I’m already tired of it because even screen grabs have chromatic aberration in it nowadays
Thanks for your kind words!

rodrigoclemente,
thank you so much man! Abracao

axiomatic,
haha, cool!

#334

Wicked stuff , simply awesome. Fodão! A pin-up tá uma gata velho!

#335

Fantastic stuff man! Looking forward to the final!

#336

Excellent as usual Kris. Noticed something in your last wip shot, earnings need gravity to em. Keep up the awesomeness.

#337

This is absolutely insane! :applause: I am looking forward to following! Good luck!

#338

How good and inspiring is to see a real genius at work… I’m not following the contest, and just became aware of your thread today. But man, it’s amazing, and real worth to look every WIP you posted. You are a great reference for me, since I started studying CG, and wow, it’s just turning better and better. Congrats, Kris, you make us brazilians very proud.

#339

Here’s some progress on the bonobo pose. Lots to be fixed but I’m happy that everything is at least half way there and rendering together without problems. Time to start freaking out… 18 days left??? You got to be kidding me!
