Hi all,

this is not my concept, I just wanted to show in what universe I’m going to approach the challenge… I’m working on my previz and will post shortly

thx

So, the image should represent the bandits getting chased by the supreme being from whom they’ve stolen the time map. It’s my recap from a scene in the actual movie.

I want to show haste and panic in the image, which we cannot see here of course. Adding some “diagonals” could help maybe? this is still a WIP…

Any critics, suggestions are very welcome

Introducing the characters;

-Randall (David Rappaport)

He’s the party leader, although they’ve agreed that nobody shall be leader…

-Wally (Jack Purvis)

-Fidgit (Kenny Baker)

-Vermin (Tiny Ross)

Now this guy would eat anything…
Wally"; This is not meant to be eaten!"
Vermin"; Well, you never know until you eaten it."

-OG (Tiny Ross)

this image speaks for itself

-Strutter (Malcolm Dixon)

-Kevin (Craig Warnock)

-Supreme Being (Ralph Richardson)

breakdown;

Week 1;

-previz / image composition draft

-R&D, setting up

Week 2-5;

All Characters

  • environnement ( if necessary )

Week 6-8;

Yeah, Time Travelling!! I’ll follow you with this one since i do a Time Travelling picture myself and i love the movie. I’m curious how your composition will look.

Good luck to you.

I love the time bandits! I think it’s cool to make a picture about them, but you asked for suggestions/criticism, I think choosing an existing Intellectual Property like the time bandits, will hurt your chances at winning this competition, it also migt violate the rules as the Time Bandits are copyrighted work.

As I’ve seen it suggested in other places, you might be better off coming up with your own story and characters, maybe in the spirit and style of the Time Bandits, but something original and yours.

If you don’t care about winning and just want a fun place to create a bad ass Time Bandits image, go for it! I would love to see the result.

My 2 cents.

  1. ‘The 25th CGChallenge: “Attack of the 50ft CGChallenge” asks you, the artist, to bring the B-Grade Movie back to life, or create your own in their spirit…’

so, making a existing b-move will not violate any rules.

  1. ‘The story is the primary component and is the most crucial element in all judging. The emotive impact and implication of “the story behind the image” is the aspect that is most important.’

There’s a difference between make a story and make an image. what you should NOT do are: I’m gonna write an interesting story to win, or, i’m gonna do an image for this story and tell ppl what the story is about. The worst thing to do is give like 5 paragraphs of writing along with your image. If ppl don’t read the writings they will not understand what your image is talking about. epic fail.

Here’s a real defintion of what story is when creating an image: WHAT CAN THE READER UNERSTAND FROM LOOKING AT YOUR IMAGE. That’s what story is. The story doesn’t necessarily describe a beginning, a mid, and an end. The story describes a moment.

taking two mighty kings for example. the two mighty kings tells a story that two kings are about to start a fight. PERIOD. they look at the image and go “that kong is bad ass and the little guy is gonna get owned!” That’s the story. what it doesn’t tell is: once upon a time in this whatever land there’s this monkey and his mom died and he went to the village and he met this human girl and they date and this old man comes and goes ROFLAMO you can’t marry her unless you go defeat Kong so he went to pick on kong and got his a** owned.

So ask yourself, what is your REAL story and how to tell your story through the image.

I could be wrong, but I don’t interpret that to mean you could use and existing movie. I take that to mean they want you to bring the genre back to life. I don’t think it’s written well. The other point is you definitely can’t violate copyrights, which I think this might do. But that’s all I’ll say, I don’t want to hijack this thread any further. Just throwing it out there.

#15

no, no my friend. you aren’t hijacking at all. (>’.’)>

#16

lol so true - I am a reader but somehow I can’t be bothered to read peoples stories about a picture :banghead:

#17

So anyway, I’ll model / sculpt every character before going back to composition / mood that I’ll approach with a rough 3D sketch…
I’m so used to sculpt ( thanks to EDAH practice thread ) I can come up with this within a few hours only.

#18

A few hours? you are so lighting fast and it is beautiful.

#19

Love it! Can’t wait to see the rest!

#20

Nice sculpt,
you’ve got a ton of models to do, good luck =)

#21

nice work kevin :beer: waiting for more please keep going :bounce:

#22

Now, I’ve made a few changes. The new idea is that instead of the time map they’ve stolen from the supreme being its actualy, the Time Node or the God Node ( node in the xsi’s render tree ). Thats why he is shown a bit in ambiant occlusion, cuz its just like he is missing a shader node… So now they are not the Time Bandits but more like the Node Bandits…

some wip;

#23

Nice Hats!

#24

Nice progress… I really like how you sculpt the hats/garments.

#25

You left the starting blocks very quicly !

#26

lol they stoled the man`s shader :applause: hehehehe nice idea :beer: keep it up :bounce:

#27
