Igor Sandman is entered in the “B-Movie” update: View Challenge Page
I’m glad the new challenge is up and running already
This time I’m not entering in the last minute.
I was going to try a new visual technique I’ve had in mind for a long time to make it look more like comics, but now that I see the topic, I’m not sure. It’s so movie oriented, it might not be the best time to try a visual treatment that’s trying to get away from the “movie look”.
I’ll think about it.
Good luck everyone. I’m looking forward to seeing all your entries.
You could probably get away with a style similar to 50s comics. So long as you give it the right colour treatment and a faded look/feel I think you might be able to pull a unique style similar to what you might have had in mind.
Grantmoore3d: Yeah I could go for a 50’s comics style. Actualy I could go for a lot of b-movie-like universes with comics look, but I’d feel like going against the topic. It’s just the way I feel about it. Thanks for your comment
So I had this zombie-flick idea in my head for a while and after a discussion with my producer friend I think I’m gonna give it a go. The only reason I’d change my mind is if I can’t have access to the castle I’m willing to shoot the film in. If I have that place, it’s “production value +100” >.>
I wrote the script but I’m too lazy to translate it all and post it. So here is the pitch:
House of Silence
A man running away from zombies takes shelter in an old manor. He realizes too late that the place is infested with undeads too and gets bitten. A slow transformation starts for the poor man. During his passage from life to death, a groupe of police force breaks into the castle to clean the place. Here he is, trapped, not completely human anymore and not yet completely zombie. A radical disruption then takes place deep inside his soul. He denies his human condition to embrace his new existence. His attacks drive the police force to panic as they’re overwhelmed by that new kind of zombie, fast, intelligent and organized. And once the storm has calmed, he is alone, in a house of silence.
It’s gonna be a “silent” film, (meaning no dialogues, but still sound effects and minimal music). I’ll probably shoot it black and white with a big attention to contrast and photography. Make up effects will be kept to a minimum and SFX will be used for the grungy loo and extra blood split.
Next step: casting. I have a few actors in mind. More info soon.
Sandman out . . .
I’ve got some news to share.
First of all, I found the actors for the four main characters (the hero and 3 cops). They’re all very talented and generous. I’ll prove worthy of their trust.
Then, I got access to the castle I was aiming at. Those pictures I’ve posted above were taken there today. It’s a beautifull place! <3
We’re shooting around the last week of february. Yeah it means I only have 3 weeks left to get everything I still need (make up, lighting and zombie extras mainly)
Go! Go! Go!
We finished shooting the film yesterday. The pre-production was a nightmare and the shooting was the hardest I’ve ever had. But it’s in the box now!
I’ll post some pictures soon.
The pictures from the castle looks awesome and has a really nice mood.
If you hadnt go for the zombiefilm, it sure would have worked with a vampiremovie hehe
Here is a collection of raw screenshots from teh film. Taken straight from the rushes.
It was shot with a Canon D5 MkII. Awesome camera!
Next steps: sound and sfx.
See you soon.
Software: After Effects

So here is my entry. This was the most painful production I’ve ever had. I’m proud I’ve been able to cope with all the problems and get it done. I really hope you’ll like it!
For some reason I don’t like my voice on the making of video >.>; I sound so patronizing, I don’t know why! Sorry ._.
By the way, I’m posting this early because I’m off to Berlin for a few days. I won’t be back for the deadline. I can’t wait to see everyone’s entry. Good luck to you all!
Nice work and atmosphère. i like it.
good luck !
good job, looks very good. Though your making off shows the same sequence way too many times I counted 18 times you showed the same clip. I think you could of done it in 2 shots one before and after. Those 18 times you showed the scene I barely could tell the difference or what you added in each take
Nice camera work though, what kind of camera did you shoot with?
