B-Movie Entry: Filipe Laurentino

#21

Some work in a color layer and an idea for the title of the movie!

#22

Some painting on the lady
too greenwish maybe!??!

I’m not sure about the title … so I’ll keep it off for now.

#23

Another monkey ^^
I like this one better

#24

I set apart the characters from the background! This is the way I found to not make everything greenish. I’ll just imagine a green light source from their letf.

#25

Background changes!

#26

What happened to my free time!!??!!?!!
aaaaaaaaaahhh

Some work in the background.

#27

It´s a very hilarious idea!!
I like very much, but maybe, needs to add more fine detail or degrade the quality for turn more into a b-grade… i don´t know if i explained right… (my english it´s limited) it´s seems like stay in a middle level between two qualities or visual concepts, i know is a wip level, but maybe helps.
Greetings!

That’s looking terrific! The characters are fun, and the muted palette works really well! It’s a shame that the title covers up so much of the monkey’s arm and the woman’s thigh, making it hard to read. Maybe you could put the titles behind the characters? Or extend the canvas up further to give the top one more room above them, and make the left tag line smaller… or all of the above!

Two other small suggestions: I love the other monkey in the green liquid on the right… but it took me a little while to tell that it was in a giant glass tube. It’s very matte: maybe some sharper specular hilights will make that feel more like glass?

Secondly, while most of the anatomy on the woman works, her knees - especially the screen left one - look boneless. Even cartoony, she needs some solid anatomy to hold her up… maybe you just haven’t got to that area yet?

Great work overall, though! Good luck!

Luc14no - thanks a lot for the comments. I see your point, you’re right. I still have to work on some fine detail and I’ll see how the overall works. If I need I’ll think in something to turn it more B-grade.

Walrus - Wonderful tips! I haven’t had thought about putting the titles behind the characters. This could be work well, I’ll try it.
You’re right about the glass tube. I googled something about it and now I have some reference to work on.
I haven’t got the girl’s legs yet, but your completely right, it seems too boneless. I’ll look for some anatomy reference to place better her legs structure.
Thanks a lot for taking your time and write here some good suggestions, I really appreciate =)

Thanks guys
See ya =)

Some painting on both characters.
I worked on Walrus’ suggestions - I fixed her legs, her knees; and I put the title behind the characters! What do you think? I think it works well.
About the glass tube, i did some research on internet and I found some glass tubes with big highlights crossing all over the tube. Does it look like glass this way? I don’t know. I’ll do some other tests after I finish the characters.
Next step: some smoothing on characters =)

Hey Filipe,

Cool updates my friend! That zombie monkey is really great, love the expression.
Perhaps, like Walrus comment, the tube need a more glass look, a bit mor specular and light reflections on it. ( here is a reference image: 5C2009115155323.jpg, hope be useful  )

Great work and waiting for more. Cheers!!

Some work on the characters. And I fixed the girl’s hands.

Hey Ferx! Thanks for your comments! And thanks for the reference, it’s certainly useful. But I’m having big trouble on doing these lights reflections. I just spent almost 2 hours making some tests and I simply can’t do anything good. =(

#33

LOL great work man, I love the characters and the monkey head in the tank

#34

Some final touches!
I added a color layer to make it like an old poster, more 80’s. I hope it worked ^^

#35

Alexander - thanks a lot! I’m glad you liked it =)

Well, that’s it!
I had some hard time to finish this image, my life is a bit crazy lately, lots of things to do. But I said to myself when I started this contest: “I HAVE to finish, I WILL finish”. And here it is =)
I think life is so crazy lately, we will ALWAYS have things to do, so this can’t be an excuse! What we have to do is plan our schedule and have GOALS.
This contest became a GOAL to me, so I HAD to finish, it doesn’t matter how!
I’m trying to do this to everything in my life: do some jogging everyday, stop eating candies ^^, and other things.
And now I have this business course i’m taking online and i HAVE to finish it until 31st march, it became my goal as well.
Anyway, these are things i’m thinking a lot lately and I’d like to share =)

GOOD LUCK TO US ALL =)
See ya.
