The story unfolds with a disgruntled clown bent on revenge against a malevolent boss at a traveling carnival. He eventually strikes an unsettling bargain with a new arrival, a fortune teller and drifter from Louisiana, bayou country, somewhere. She gives him a vial containing a potion to be poured at the entrance of the boss’s trailer at midnight. Early that evening he loses his nerve and disposes the potion and vial at a porta-potty. The events that cascade from that moment on are none the clown would or could ever have imagined.
