B-Movie Entry: Al Nigel Mayo
this is my first challenge on cg society. The weird thing about it was I started a sketch blog a week ago and I was doing b-movie themes, so when I saw this challenge I flipped. There are so many thing to choose from so I choose a obscure little movie called the claw and I wanted to do a cinematic move poster as my entire here are the thumbnails character studies are next up. all comment are welcome and thank you in advance for your opinions.

hey, welcome onboard!
your sketches are looking great, I specially like the one in the middle-left, the perspective looks very good in that one!
thanks for the comments i was leaning towards the top and middle left as well the middle left maybe the way to go i’m going to start the plenaries character studies today. after my daughter birthday party.
Love the idea! Especially the 5th thumb, where the bird flies over ppls heads, covering the sun or something. Good luck with the challenge
This is the first pre-vis. sketch of the monster bird I was trying to make her more monstrous than what’s in the movie. she looks a bit goofy but i really want to make a golden era movie poster so I’m trying to stay away from the goofiness in favor of a more serious illustration. i know it;s the giant claw but some of those bad move had great painted poster take Barberella for instant bad movie great poster, haha. thanks again for all the comment when i take a break i want to comment on the some of the others work it some really great stuff being done on this site good luck to every one.
The character sketches look fantastic. Lovely work! As to the character studies, I particularly like the middle right one; it’s a bit of an unconventional perspective and one that could convey a good bit of horror as well. I’ve found a good way to make something that’s meant to be unsettling have a little bit more of an impact on a viewer is to do things such as using unconventional perspectives. It hits people more viscerally, I think.
I didn’t know some one else was doing the giant claw I really didn’t see his entire i researched a bunch of movies before i pick this one so I’m posting this reply because i did take any ones idea.
Great characterization for the Bird, and the Storyboards Poster is a neat idea, seems alot of work, but very cool!!
i was really trying to go for a more authentic 1950 style. The wool sweater white stocking, just like my grand mother use to dress like but only when they thought it was hip to wear.
This is the layout for the painting. I want to do a flat mix with realism style i’m trying to keep it graphic and dynamic. there where many elements of the movie i wanted to incorporate some i did this sort montage frame in a letter box format.
