Awkward Moments - Mover - bored alien

#1

I just got Lightwave a few months ago and I guess it’s time to learn rigging and animation, so count me in. (Lol but don’t count on me for a winning entry.) Any good links for rigging in Lightwave 7.5? I’ll be back with some ideas.

#2

You wont have any issues with rigging this time. Just group/parent the objects to your skeleton.

#3

Thanks Mikael P, but I’m thinking more along the lines of setting up IK and joints, adding goal objects to keep the knees doing what they ought to, that sort of thing.

#4

The manual? Sorry I´ve never used LW, so I cant help you.

#5

I like sheep! Sheep are hilarious. My guy’s going to be a sheep-thief. (And of course an un-successful one.) Started modelling the guy. I’ll post a truly crappy storyboard soon.

#6

Everybody says they can’t draw. I really mean it. I have trouble with STICK FIGURES.
Here is our friend sneaking up on the target…

#7

… success! He starts off carrying the unwieldy animal…

#8

… and things don’t work out so well. Not too exciting, but I figure it’ll be ambitious enough for my first animation, and fairly easy to add or take away (i assume take away) parts to keep it under 15 seconds. :bounce: Oh and the guy’s not really gonna be a stick figure. I just really do suck that much.

EDIT: Oh and one sheep is labelled A so it’ll be clear which one should go where.

#9

HAHAHA!!!..
nice one…best Idea I’ve seen yet!

#10

 yes, it does look funny. I can only think of stick death. With the stick figures you´ve drawn and heads falling off.

#11

Wow, thanks a lot guys. Now I’m really getting excited about this animation. (I have a feeling these challenges are going to be addictive for me…) Just hope I’ll be able to get my idea across in 3d.

#12

Okay, haven’t had any time thus far, but here is my little guy. :bounce:

#13

Sheep’s next.

#14

if you’re still looking for an IK tute then go to evil-plan should be what you’re after - keep it coming!

#15

hey, thanks! That looks just about perfect. I definitely still need it. School’s been crazy, so I hope I’ll be able to finish this on time. I can see everything pretty clearly now in my head. Wish I could just skip to the animation already.

#16

Okay. Finally. Thanksgiving break from school is upon me, so let’s find out if I can learn everything and rig and animate all this weekend!

#17

Okay, so it’s not much of a rig, but I think it’ll be sufficient for my first animation. Just put some IK in the legs, and constraints so he doesn’t freak out. I’m running out of time anyway. :hmm: But I’m learning a lot! So here’s my sneaky guy. (If I had more time I’d align the joints better.) The sheep should take about 3 minutes now that I know what to do. :bounce: :bounce:

#18

Edit: Better color?

Should I make my thief blue or something so it’s not too monochromatic?

#19

I talk a lot. :bounce:

p.s. yes there are apparently holes in my sheep even after making him double-sided. (I’m lazy.) It will be fixed, just need to move a few verts.

All is lost! Okay, almost nothing is lost. But still… Here again is my first silly animation test, with a few movements blocked out. I haven’t forgotten the great tips that were given to me before the server rollback, which is good. It looks almost certain that I won’t be able to finish. :thumbsdow But I’ve learned a lot, and I’ll have some time off to really work on the next challenge.

Edit: Link removed. Thanks guys, it was fun
