Automatic keyframe interpolation in XSI 7 and 7.5

#1

Good day everyone,

I was wondering for a while now where the nice automatic interpolation in XSI 6.5 had disappeared, just came in very handy for quickly animating some overshooting action; bouncing, jiggling or wobbling.

Below a screenshot of the way interpolatiopn worked in Version 6.5 and how things are today:

I’m not in front of Softimage at the moment but there’s a preference you can change, I think it’s Slope Computation Constraint in the Animation preferences.

Hello everyone, thank you very much.

@ grahamef: it doesn’t matter which preference you choose, the nice little overshoot is gone for good as it seems…pity.

@ toonafish: thank you very much, the link clarified things nicely, although not in my favor… I’ll use the script mentioned in the XSIBase-thread, I’m glad there’s a workaround.

Happy holidays!

In Softimage 2010, the script is no longer necessary.
Fcurve Spline Slope Command

If you liked the automatic spline slope from versions of Softimage previous to v7.0, there’s a command and preference for you!

The Keys > Spline Slope command in the fcurve editor works in the same way as the Automatic Slope option worked in versions previous to v7.0: it computes the orientation and length of a key’s slope based on the interpolation of the fcurve between the previous key and the next key (neighboring keys), but with no plateau influence.

You can also set a preference to have this as the default slope behavior when adding new keys to a curve: select the Keys > Slope Computation Constraint > Automatic Spline (from neighboring keys) option in the Animation Preferences property editor.
@ luceric,

Thanks a lot, I’m glad to have this functionality back:)
