Do we have any other sources?

Any confirmation?

Well Avid has “divested” Softimage…nothing about it being bought by Autodesk but I’m sure they did:

#4

This is all very sad and hopefully Autodesk won’t bury it.

#5

Cmon man you can’t post speculations like this, I’m a sensible guy. Sure it will help soften my drepression in case its true, though.

#6

Sorry peeps, i jumped the gun a little too early. I will go and hide/work - till i get some more info. See if i can find out any more info from game devs.

#7

I just gave you the proof:

Now this doesn’t say Autodesk bought Softimage but its been “divested” or released. However, lots of word going around that Autodesk picked it up.

#8

This would be quite unfortunate if it turns out to be true …

#9

Such a shame.

#10

Okay now keeping aside if it’s true or not that AD acquired SI, can anyone rumorize why that would make any sense?

Softimage seems to be growing more than ever before (in the last few years) and it is making lots of the companies (specially in game industry) stop using max and maya. They just released ICE which is a groundbreaking technology that can only increase the growing rate of app sales.

huh?

#11

I take it you haven’t seen Avid’s numbers for this quarter.

#12

Great now maya wont have such a heavy competitor and the developement team can go back fixing its bugs instead of bloating it with new features to match xsi’s.

#13

I knew it was just a matter of time until this leaped off the mailing lists and onto the forums.

So far, SI has just been put up for sale. No official confirmation that Autodesk has bought them, although there has been a lot of speculation.

Some people have brought up antitrust laws, but given that the playing field here is wider than one might think, I don’t think this, if true, legally amounts to a monopoly.

#14

No matter what happens, it’s certainly going to be interesting. (Maybe not good, but interesting nonetheless.)

#15

Rob, before this thread gets out of hand (and it will), maybe archive it? Until we get some real word on this? Right now it’s just rumors.

#18
