Auto-Rigging Tools in Maya (Any Suggestions)

#1

Hi everyone,

I’m working on rigging some characters I’ve created, and recently I’ve spent a lot of time on learning how to model and learning principle of animation. Now I just want to rig my characters. I’ve looked around at a couple of auto rigging scripts, but I would like to know which ones others are using and if anyone has any suggestions, for someone who is pretty new to rigging.

Hey, as far as I know (Being a Max User) this is as good as it gets for Maya!

Not only does it have the tools, but it also has all of the theory behind it as well, so you know what all of the scripts are doing.

I went through most free auto-rigging scripts for Maya and there are some really great ones but I ended up paying for Rapid Rig & Rapid Pose. They’re pretty cheap and save me so much time.

Rapid Rig - Dummy Rig will pretty much gives you all the flexibility you’ll need for a bipedal character apart from the feet which you’ll need to place at 0 on the Y axis.

There are some other really good free autorig scripts out there that are more modular in nature if you need to create fantastical creatures etc but I’d really have to dig into my backups to find them.

Thanks for the heads up guys. I’ve been wanting to try the rapid rig tool set for a while, but I’ve been wanting to hear what others thought about it first.

I definitely recommend advanced skeleton. It is a free, very complete and flexible tool - you can use for much more than just bipeds. Also, it’s Facebook website contains several training videos.

Rapid Rig looks great and it has training videos too. But I’ve never used it so I can’t say much.
