auto:cannot have holes?

#1

scenario: i have modeled a microwave for a short animation. i have already put maps on it, but when i modeled it i intruded the door so i would be able to open the door and have an inside(where you put your t.v. dinner). now when i try to unfold it says it cannot have holes, so i continue with projection. it works but the map is all over the place and i cannot figure out what is what. my question is can i have an intrude and still be able to map? and or should i just add a hole material. the door is modeled seperately so it has to be able to open and close. hope this makes sense. any help would be great.

Be carefull with intrude. If you go a little too far to make the side walls come in until they are the same size as the front opening, then you’ll have uvmapping problems. Notice on the pic, there is a lip at the door of the microwave. Also , notice the cut line going from the front to the back. That way it’ll unfold the inside, instead of having to map each face.

If you don’t want the lip on the front of the microwave, then try insetting the front face of the cube to get the size of the opening. Then inset again, just barely though. Move this new face normal. Hit “W” to go to wireframe mode so you can see when you get close to the back wall. You can then scale the face so it’s the same size as opening if you like.

thank you, that is a great idea, i guess i just like the intrude makes a big hole and is easier then insetting, but your right, its only one extra step. cool i will try it. thank you very much:beer:
